10 HARDEST Bosses Unlocked on New Game Plus
10 Hardest Bosses in New Game Plus
Welcome to MojoPlays, and today, we’re taking a look at 10 of the toughest bosses to appear in New Game Plus playthroughs.
Lavenza
“Persona 5 Royal” (2019)
Accessing this fight is already a pain in the butt because it can only be accessed on New Game Plus and is only accessible during the third semester. Hopefully you’ve buffed out everyone as much as you can because Lavenza is harder to defeat than the Reaper himself! You will need to defeat her within five turns or else she will wipe the entire party, instantly ending the fight. Your best means of getting through this fight is by continuously using skills that counter hers and know who you should be passing the baton to. Easier said than done, though.
Dreamborn Terror
“GRIME” (2021)
The Dreamborn Terror is a lot like Lavenza in that you can only find it when playing under New Game Plus, and it serves as the ultimate test of your skill. However, you’ll only be able to fight it once you’ve gone through all of the Child’s memories during your initial run. Talk to the Child during New Game Plus, and the fight will begin. Should you attempt this, be prepared for a long fight as the Dreamborn Terror boasts three health bars and reaches new stages whenever half of a health bar is gone. So, stay on your toes and try not to get discouraged on your fourth or fifth death.
Simone
“NieR: Automata” (2017)
Sure, “NieR: Automata” doesn’t technically have a New Game Plus, but the Routes you go down after the main story are essentially just that. Between Route A and B, Route B contains the harder fight against Simone. Not only does he have way more health than your initial encounter with him, some of his moves here can either put you at death’s door or even outright kill you in a single hit. It doesn’t help that on this route, you’re playing as 9S, who has a completely different playstyle compared to 2B.
Boolossus
“Luigi’s Mansion” (2001)
It might seem a tad silly putting a game like “Luigi’s Mansion” on a list about New Game Plus stuff. There aren’t a lot of Nintendo games that do this kind of thing in the first place. But the funny thing about “Luigi’s Mansion” is that the New Game Plus version of Boolossus is only accessible in the PAL version. Here, Luigi rides the Poltergust around the balcony’s icy surface, and yes, the controls are much more tricky to get a hold of here. It’s pretty easy to accidentally run into Boolossus and misfire ice blasts. As if Hidden Mansion couldn’t get any harder in this version, right?
Ibis
“Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon” (2023)
The funny thing about Ibis is that unlike the other entries we have here, there really isn’t anything different about it under New Game Plus. So, why is it on here? Well, no matter how many playthroughs you do, Ibis is an incredibly difficult boss every single time! This menacing machine forces you to always be on the move, and if your mech isn’t reaching a certain speed, you’re going to wind up taking a ton of damage. Hopefully you have an idea on how to approach it on your second or third run, though.
Red Apocalypse Dragon
“Metaphor: ReFantazio” (2024)
We had to throw another Atlus game in here, yes. Have you played any of them on hard difficulties? They can be grueling, and the Red Apocalypse Dragon is no different. To fight him, you’ll have to start New Game Plus on any difficulty above Storyteller. Then, find the Book of Apocalypse somewhere within Akademia. You need to be extremely careful with this beast because if you repel or absorb any of its attacks, it will counterattack with a move that can wipe the entire party. That alone is enough to put most players on edge, and it's enough for some of us to go and watch someone else fight it.
Mr. Freeze
“Batman: Arkham City” (2011)
One of the reasons we rave about Mr. Freeze in “Arkham City” so much is because of how well-designed he is. He is difficult in perhaps the best way possible in that his boss fight demands you memorize every single possible type of takedown in the game. In a normal playthrough, you only need to execute a handful of them. But on New Game Plus, his fight requires you execute all twelve possible takedowns against him. And once you’ve done one, you cannot use it again. Better study up, son…or keep a guide up, I guess.
Ur Dragon
“Dragon’s Dogma” (2012)
Of the bosses on this list, the Ur Dragon is honestly the most forgiving. Still tough as nails, but also a bit forgiving. You won’t be able to tackle the beast until after you have beaten the game, after which it will become available to take on at any point in New Game Plus. Now, you can fight it solo and do so in different intervals if you feel so inclined to do so. However, if you want the REALLY good gear, you will have to fight the online version, where you can have seven other players helping you. Just know this Ur Dragon is way more of a threat than the offline version.
Ceviche Sisters
“Another Crab’s Treasure” (2024)
Yes, you do fight the Ceviche Sisters already in the main campaign. But should you tackle New Game Plus, you will find an almost entirely different boss fight. Under New Game Plus, the Ceviche Sisters come bearing some new moves to throw you completely off. A third sister joins the fray, and all three receive a major boost in attack power and speed, making the whole fight way more overwhelming than the original encounter was. Hope you got those parries down and try to go ham on one the second they’re all separated!
The Summoned Savior
“Hollow Knight: Silksong” (2025)
The Summoned Savior is one of several reasons why people say “Silksong” is way harder than the original “Hollow Knight”. After beating the main game, you will unlock a new difficulty setting called “Steel Soul Mode”, which activates permadeath. Well, guess what? This setting is also the only way you’ll get access to the “A Vassal Lost”, which you will need to complete in order to fight the Summoned Savior. And if you die at any point…well, have fun doing the whole game all over again.
