10 Disappointing Games That Are Getting a Sequel

Welcome to MojoPlays, and today, we’re taking a look at 10 middling games that are somehow getting a sequel in the future.

“Lords of the Fallen 2” (2026)

We have to give it to developer Hexworks and publisher CI Games - they won’t let “Lords of the Fallen” go. The original game didn’t really catch on in 2014, and the 2023 successor…well, it got a little more attention and sold a million copies in ten days, but it was still just as middling in reception. Somehow, we’re still going to be getting another “Lords of the Fallen”, though this next one will be sticking with some of the improvements seen in the 2023 game. We only hope that something’s done about the difficulty and the technical performance before the sequel launches - that’s kind of what killed interest with the first two games.

“Mortal Shell 2” (2026)

“Mortal Shell” suffered a similar fate as “Lords of the Fallen”. Here was an action RPG trying to capitalize on the success of FromSoftware only to fumble in areas that it needed most. This was yet another copy that couldn’t get the difficulty right and flew way too close to trying to be like “Dark Souls” in environmental design. It too sold over a million copies shortly after launch, but reviews among players were mixed. Publisher Playstack and developer Cold Symmetry are taking another crack at it when “Mortal Shell 2” launches in 2026.

“Two Worlds III” (2026…?)

If you enjoyed the “Two Worlds” games way back in 2007 or 2010, then we suppose you’re in luck? Despite middling reviews of “Two Worlds II”, a sequel is currently in the works. There’s just one caveat to this whole thing - “Two Worlds III” has been in development since 2016. The reason it's taken so long is because publisher TopWare Interactive wanted to finish up on DLC for the second game. Okay, well, the last DLC came out in 2019. So…where has this been? If you’re still excited for this, then more power to you. We just hope it turns out solid in the end. Long development times don’t always indicate that possibility.

“Code Vein II” (2026)

This sequel is honestly a bit shocking. When “Code Vein” launched in 2019, it didn’t do too well in the review process, and it took four years for the game to cross three million copies. Well, Bandai Namco Entertainment wants to give the vampire action RPG another shot as we’re getting a sequel in 2026. The only concern we have is whether it will actually catch people’s attention. Since 2019, the Soulslike market has become extremely oversaturated with new games in the genre coming out seemingly every week or every month. Everyone wants a cut of the FromSoftware pie, but is BNE gonna get that with a second “Code Vein” game? We’ll see.

“DreadOut 3” (2026)

In case you aren’t familiar with this series, “DreadOut” is developed by a studio based in Indonesia called Digital Happiness. Unfortunately, neither “DreadOut” nor its sequel have caught many people’s attention. Both games have floundered in reception, though players have seemingly found their own enjoyment when looking at written user reviews. So, they must be selling just fine to keep the studio afloat? Regardless of how you feel about them, a third game is in development and scheduled for 2026.

“Tiny Metal II” (2026)

“Tiny Metal” was a tactics RPG that was heavily inspired by Nintendo’s own series, “Advance Wars”. Even though it was made by a small studio named Area 35, it managed to nab Sony as its publisher…well, Sony Music Entertainment, not Sony Interactive Entertainment. The game saw a mixed reaction from players and critics as many felt the game was unfinished with its short campaign and basic gameplay. Area 35 is currently working on a sequel and seems to be publishing it themselves. Here’s hoping they’ve found their own unique spin to put on the formula.

“Hello Neighbor 3” (2026)

We really have to ask who is buying these games? For some reason, “Hello Neighbor” has managed to stick around for a long time despite having some of the worst games in the kids’ horror genre. Every game is marred by so many bugs, glitches, performance issues, and poorly designed levels that it’s a wonder this IP continues to push copies. Is it the art style? Is it the vague writing that never seems to answer any questions? Whatever the reason is, it's somehow getting a third mainline game in 2026. Have fun, we suppose.

“Outlast 3” (Uhhh…eventually?)

The original “Outlast” is still utterly remarkable. Its sequel, “Outlast 2”...still solid, but excessive in the gore and shock value, which was enough to turn off quite a number of people. That hasn’t stopped Red Barrels from announcing “Outlast 3”...in 2017. At the time, the studio stated that they wanted to finish a smaller spin-off before working on the next mainline entry, that supposed “small project” being “The Outlast Trials”...which was released in 2024. Yeah, a lot of time has passed, so we hope the wait for the next core game winds up being worth it.

Whatever the Next Mainline Pokemon Game Is

It’s no secret that “Pokemon” is in a dire state. Nintendo, Game Freak, and The Pokemon Company have allowed complacency to take hold of themselves as each new game has been an utter disappointment. New monster designs are usually a mixed bag, stories aren’t compelling, and above all, obvious shortcuts in development are easily noticeable. Come on, they couldn’t even properly model balconies onto buildings for “Pokemon Legends: Z-A”! And yet, we all know another main game is on the horizon for Switch 2…and it likely isn’t going to look or play all that well.

“Atomic Heart II” (2026)

This might have been one of the most surprising pieces of video game news we heard in 2025. We are getting a sequel to “Atomic Heart” sometime in 2026. Yes, one of the biggest disappointments from way back in 2023 is getting a brand new game. Though it had a unique premise, “Atomic Heart” really fell on its face by loading the game up with awful writing and a crap ton of fetch quests. It was basically a literal chore to play through. But according to developer Mundfish, the game sold well above expectations. So, we’re crossing our fingers that all the money made from the original game was properly invested in the correct areas. Otherwise, we might get a case of deja vu.
