#10: Sugar & Spice

“Supersized Snatch Game”

Lots of “Drag Race” contestants call themselves sisters. Sugar and Spice meant it. It was almost inevitable that the rambunctious TikTok twins of drag would have to lip sync against each other at some point. Even Sugar and Spice knew that. They choreographed every second of their lip sync to Pat Benatar’s cover of “You Better Run.” Their cooperative lip sync is rambunctious, goofy, and completely unserious. The judges act mystified by it, but it makes sense. Rather than try to outdo each other, they pull a total punk rock move that essentially forces RuPaul to make the decision for them.

#9: Bob the Drag Queen, Chi Chi DeVayne, Kim Chi & Naomi Smalls

“The Realness”

Season 8’s top four finalists didn’t let the competition keep them from becoming family. Going into the final lip sync to RuPaul’s “The Realness,” they approached their last performance together almost like they had formed a girl group. When the chorus hit, they all made sure to strike the same post on the word “house,” raising their hands into a triangle over their heads like a roof. It feels so simple and playful. It’s like best friends just having a last laugh before the end of the school year. The simplicity of it is also what makes it so charming when Kim Chi is still half a beat behind.

#8: Adore Delano & Trinity K. Bonet

“Queens of Talk”

Season 6 had some incredible lip syncs. Laganja Estranja and Joslyn Fox’s synchronous split is still a huge gag. At this point in season 6, Adore was an underdog and fan favorite and Trinity was the resident lip sync assassin. Throwing them in the bottom together was bound to be a great show. But rather than trying to outshine the other, the bottom two came together in a heated embrace. Performing Paula Abdul’s animalistic and sexy 90s club track, “Vibeology,” the two ended up in a sexy face-off that ended in some intimate body contact. Even RuPaul was feeling the heat. If a lip sync ever earned a double shantay, it was this one.

#7: Aja & Nina Bo’nina Brown

Collaborating with Aja on a lip sync is a terrible idea. Whatever you do, she can probably do it better. Kimora Blac found that out pretty early in season 9. But Nina Bo’nina Brown doesn’t get her due for embodying the meaning of songs. At the climax of the 90s house classic “Finally,” Aja and Nina both plant themselves in one spot and bend backward to pantomime CeCe Peniston’s joyous belting. Aja’s holding herself up on platform boots and Nina is practically bending herself in half at the knees. Ultimately, Nina won the lip sync, but it’s one of those moments that transcends the competition and just becomes iconic.

#6: Monét X Change & Shea Couleé

“Drag Race Gives Back Variety Extravaganza”

Few queens are better live performers than these two former champions. “All Stars 7” competitors Shea Couleé and Monét X Change faced off in a Lip Sync for Your Legacy to the Kylie Minogue disco track, “Supernova.” These two are both forces to be reckoned with where choreo is concerned. Once they locked in, they started finding the same beats in the song. They storm downstage together once the chorus picks up. When the song hits the bridge, and Shea and Monét seductively slide to the stage floor in perfect unison, you can hear the entire cast scream with excitement. It’s so simple. But it feels like we’re seeing their powers become supercharged.

#5: Raja & Carmen Carrera

“Jocks in Frocks”

The Heathers seemed to perform an entire three-act play during their Paula Abdul showdown. Knowing that Carmen Carrera is inevitably going to take off her clothes, Raja fires the first shot by doing a striptease of her own. The tension on display here is palpable. Carmen takes things to the next level, responding with even more nudity. Next thing we know, they’re writhing and crawling on the floor in a performance of ecstasy that is one of the most explicit things ever done on the mainstage. This whole thing is one step away from violating several broadcasting guidelines. Raja seals it with a kiss.

#4: Ginger Minj & Mayhem Miller

“Pink Table Talk”

Lizzo’s “Phone” is a perfect lip sync song for queens who know how to bring the funny. Ginger Minj may not be the greatest dancer “Drag Race” has ever seen, but if there’s one thing she can do, it’s make fun of her competitors’ technically superior dance skills. When Mayhem Miller breaks out that diet vogue dance, Ginger follows, immediately taking the wind out of her sails. Not to be outdone, Mayhem decides to play along. Soon, the two of them start chasing each other across the stage as the song builds to its hilarious punchline.

#3: Alyssa Edwards & Tatianna

“Revenge of the Queens”

There’s a reason “Drag Race” fans still point to the “Shut Up and Drive” lip sync as one of the show’s very best. This is what happens when two lip sync titans collide. Some great lip syncs are defined by what the queens do when there are no lyrics. Alyssa Edwards and Tatianna took the wordless bridge of the Rihanna song as an opportunity to show off their impressive dance skills. They’re like what would happen if two tornadoes struck RuPaul’s mainstage at the same time. That’s to say nothing of the moment they hit the floor at the same time.

#2: Yvie Oddly & Brooke Lynn Hytes

“Snatch Game at Sea”

This is a case of competition breeding innovation. Yvie Oddly and Brooke Lynn Hytes are both frontrunners on season 11. Neither one is just going to lie down and give up. But they will lie down and get up again. Yvie and Brooke Lynn are well-matched for flexibility and agility. Demi Lovato’s “Sorry Not Sorry” becomes the perfect showcase for their gymnastics. About halfway through the lip sync, they both end up on the ground, contorting themselves like they’re made of jelly. They even approach handstands differently. While their instincts for the song are similar, it’s also not a case of perfect synchronization because they both have such different styles.

“Dynamic Drag Duos”

The very first “All Stars” season is maligned for some pretty valid reasons. However, its best lip sync is also one of the franchise’s most emotional. Season 2 sisters and friends Raven and Jujubee are forced to lip sync for their lives, inevitably knocking one of them out of the competition completely. Robyn’s melancholy dance hit “Dancing on My Own” provides the perfect soundtrack for this moment of truth. Instead of fighting it out, the two danced together, defying the meaning of the song and the whole concept of Lip Syncing for Your Life. By the end, everyone is in tears.
