The 10 WOST People in the Resident Evil Series

The 10 Worst People in the Resident Evil Series
Welcome to MojoPlays, and today we’re looking at the most heinous, despicable characters found in the “Resident Evil” series.
Osmund Saddler
Although his actions don’t have quite as far reaching consequences as other “Resident Evil” villains, Osmund Saddler is still a nasty piece of work. As the antagonist of “Resident Evil 4” and its remake, he led the vicious cult Los Illuminados. Of course, it’s easy to be vicious when you’re host to a horrific mind-controlling parasite. Saddler experimented on Spanish villagers, infecting them with Las Plagas and forcing them to do his bidding. It’s one thing to convince people to do evil, but worse to force them into it by turning them into monsters. His worldwide plan was pretty messed up, too. He kidnapped the President’s daughter, Ashely Graham, in an attempt to spread Las Plagas throughout the US government and, eventually, take over the world.
Eveline
Part human, part genetically modified bioweapon, Eveline comes as the surprise big bad in “Resident Evil 7.” And while we wouldn’t say she’s scarier or more interesting than members of the Baker clan, her being in control of them definitely makes her more evil. Eveline can infect others with her mold, eventually making them her puppets. She does so to the Bakers over the course of three years before the game takes place. Not only does this lead to some truly disturbing changes in their biology, but it warps their minds, causing them to perform sadistic acts, like force-feeding human remains to their victims. Eveline is responsible for all their disgusting acts, all out of some twisted need to be part of a family.
Nicholai Zinoviev
If you blow up a hospital that is currently working against a virus that turns people into zombies, it’s safe to say you’re pretty rotten to the core. In “Resident Evil 3,” Nikolai Zinoviev is sent to Raccoon City to kill the undead and rescue civilians. But he has his own objectives, all of which are pretty vile. He betrays and kills his fellow mercenaries, and he monitors Umbrella’s latest monstrosity, Nemesis, as it hunts down and murders members of S.T.A.R.S. In order to secure the potential profitability of Umbrella’s T-virus, he destroys the only possible vaccine, in the middle of the outbreak! With enemies as cold-blooded as this, who needs zombies?
William Birkin
First appearing in the original “Resident Evil 2,” William Birkin actually grew more despicable as Capcom added to his history. An incredibly talented virologist, Birkin created the G-Virus for Umbrella. But when they tried to steal his work, Birkin infected himself with it, mutating horrifically and causing the outbreak inside Raccoon City. In this twisted form, he hunted his own daughter, as her relation meant she could also be a carrier. Future games would retcon just how terrible a person he was before this. He conspired with Albert Wesker to take the life of Dr. James Marcus, their mentor and co-founder of Umbrella. Much worse were his experiments on Lisa Trevor, a girl held captive by Umbrella since she was a girl. Scientific curiosity can be a terrifying thing.
Alex Wesker
Although you won’t find her in the mainline games, this less famous Wesker is nonetheless a horrible person. A child prodigy, she became tied to Umbrella at a very early age, growing into a respected scientist in their pharmaceutical division. Although she’s responsible for various bad deeds, her most evil is how she treated the people of Sein Island. Under the guise of using her wealth to restore a poverty-striken area, she spent her private time kidnapping citizens and experimenting on them. While they saw her as a savior, she was actually subjecting them to a virus of her own creation. And it wasn’t long before she expanded her scope to the larger population, all while keeping up the good samaritan charade.
Alexia Ashford
An incredibly high intelligence is almost a requirement for a “Resident Evil” villain. But not many of them can claim they’re a genetic clone of their genius ancestor. Unfortunately, this gave Alexia Ashford quite the god complex. And when she discovered how her “father” created her and her twin brother, she didn’t take it too kindly. You see, she also created her own virus, using Alexander Ashford as her test subject and turning him into a mindless monster. She would then infect herself, and enter cryostasis for fifteen years so that she could control it, and her new abilities, when she came out. Cold, calculating, and remarkably patient, Alexia’s treatment of her father and her view of humanity as beneath her makes for a ruthless foe.
Mother Miranda
Mother Miranda’s path to villainy begins out of tragedy, but her horrid actions make that easy to forget. After losing her daughter, Eva, to the Spanish Flu in the late 1910s, Miranda came into contact with a strange fungus. It not only prolonged her life, but showed her the consciousnesses of everyone it had ever absorbed, including her daughter. Miranda then experimented on nearby villagers, leading to most of their deaths, all in search of a vessel for Eva. And for the next century, she wouldn’t let up. With the memory of her daughter the only thing tying Miranda to her humanity, she destroyed countless families in pursuit of her goals. As if all that wasn’t bad enough, she also created Eveline and was indirectly responsible for the events of “RE 7.”
Brian Irons
It isn’t always a mad scientist or a megalomaniac that stands out for their villainy in “Resident Evil.” In the second game, Brian Irons proved he could stand among the worst of them. As Raccoon City’s Chief of Police, Irons was as dirty as they come, happy to protect the Umbrella Corporation so long as they kept paying him. But that is far from his most deplorable crime. He also showed violent tendencies towards young women and often enjoyed taxidermy as a hobby…two character traits that make for one horrific combination. In “RE 2,” Irons made the mayor’s daughter his latest victim, while also hindering his own officers out of paranoia, which only added fuel to the fire. So, when he finally gets his comeuppance, it’s a pretty satisfying moment.
Oswell E. Spencer
Since he’s the co-founder of the Umbrella Corporation, and the namesake of the original game’s setting, the Spencer Mansion, Oswell E. Spencer being one of the worst people in “Resident Evil” obviously isn’t a shock. Although he plays a pretty small role in the overall scheme of things, his list of misdeeds throughout the franchise’s history speak for themselves. His ambitions always lied in eugenics, and his goals always strayed towards forcing evolution upon humanity through the development of viruses. He helped discover the Progenitor Virus, and led the charge for developing others with it as the basis, all meant to mutate humans in Spencer’s quest to play God. What’s worse is that all of his crimes were committed from a place of comfort, with Spencer seemingly avoiding being anywhere near the messes he caused.
Albert Wesker
Arguably the most iconic baddie in the whole series, Albert Wesker’s crimes are too long, too varied, and too involved to list in their entirety here. Players learned to hate him from the very first game, when he was revealed as an Umbrella spy who led your team to their doom. Obviously, he grew worse over the years. With superhuman abilities born from experimentations, and a merciless view on humanity, Wesker’s actions have only ever been in service of subjecting others to his control and power. His life was defined by the pain and death he brought to different people around the globe. And he would’ve brought even more of it with Uroboros, had Chris Redfield not stopped him in “Resident Evil 5.”
