Top 10 Badass Transformers Moments

Jason Bowman

Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we’re counting down our picks for the times those Robots in Disguise were total badasses.

For the sake of covering a lot of ground, we’ll focus on having only one entry per series.

#10: Leader Team-Up

Bumblebee and Optimus had been butting heads throughout this season of Transformers Robots in Disguise - with Bee believing he was more than capable of leading the autobot’s efforts on earth and Optimus believing there was still much he could learn. This came to a head when the two had to split up from the rest of the squad while bringing down Decepticon Island. It was only until the two were facing off against Steeljaw, who had harnessed the full powers of the Decepticon hunters. They were able to put their differences aside and remove the weapons - resulting in Bumblebee using them himself.

Sweet Solus Prime, that is one cool power-up.

#9: Last Ditch Effort

With Detroit facing complete annihilation at the hands of the Decepticons, It’s up to the cyber Ninja squad of Prowl and Jazz to create an all-spark force field powerful enough to hold back the Lugnut Supremes. But their combined power simply isn’t enough. In the first of many heroic sacrifices we’ll see in this list, Prowl realizes what he must do in order to save his allies and uses the full force of his own spark.

That image of his pained smile as he’s engulfed in light is burned into our minds forever. It’s heartbreaking… but utterly badass.

#8: Double Prime

For all its faults, there are some genuinely awesome moments in Transformers Headmasters. Possibly the best of those comes in its opening moments, where we see Galvatron and the rest of his crew attempt to seize Cybertron by targeting Vector Sigma directly. When Optimus and Hot Rod both meet in Sigma’s chamber, the latter once again harnesses the power of the Matrix becoming Rodimus Prime again. We get this line from the narrator that really sells the moment and sends chills down our spines.

Finally the two have become equals, and for the first time in recorded history, there are two matrix bearers bringing the fight directly to the baddies. Yes, this moment doesn’t last long, but while it did we enjoyed every second.

#7: Savage Claw

The search for the cyber planet key on Jungle planet led to a lot of bizarre phenomena for the autobots, chief among them being the transformation of Overhaul into Leo Breaker. That wasn’t the extent of these strange happenings though as, during a battle with the Decepticons and Scourge, the lion bot’s powers were explored further. He gets his ass handed to him by Megatron. But when all hope seems lost, a bolt of lightning hits him and suddenly Leo Breaker and Optimus prime combine. We’re suckers for combiner modes, but this one feels more like something from the Brave anime series many TF fans will be familiar with, especially with its hot-blooded nature. One strike later, and Megs is out for the count.

#6: Arise, Optimus Prime

It’s the moment that the entirety of Transformers One was leading up to, but none of us could’ve expected how well it would be pulled off. After seemingly being killed by his best bud, D-16, Orion Pax falls to the core of cybertron. It’s here that the voice of Primus speaks out to him and gives him a fancy new upgrade in the form of the Matrix of leadership. Now finally becoming Optimus Prime, the autobot leader doesn’t just take on Megatron one on one, he brings the smackdown to all his new high guard buddies. Of course, he then takes down his former homie in a decisive manner. Boy, this movie just got transformers RIGHT.

#5: Bee’s Back

If there’s one series of Transformers that had a ‘grand finale’ it’s Prime. With Megatron moments away from achieving his goal of total dominance - things are looking grim. After all, he even threw poor bumblebee into the Omega Lock's energy field moments before. Well, it turns out that this was a huge mistake on his part. We hear a mysterious voice in the background as Megatron is pierced by the Star Saber. That’s right, the once voiceless Bumblebee has finally been cured by the pool and he makes the most emphatic of returns.

#4: Heroic Sacrifice

Despite everything, Galvatron was completely reluctant to acknowledge the threat of Unicron, so Starscream decided the only way to snap him out of it was to try to kick his ass. As an aside, this is one of the best fights in the entire franchise, but what everyone always talks about is the aftermath. Starscream realizes the only way to get Galvatron to see sense is to concede the battle and then make this grand statement. He targets Unicron himself knowing full well that it will cost him his life. And it does.

Starcream’s sacrifice finally proves to Galvatron that he must put everything aside and ally with the autobots in order to stop the incoming calamity.

#3: Moon Showdown

For our money, the award for most underrated Autobot leader goes to none other than the Godmaster, Ginrai - and it’s for reasons like this. When the Decepticon’s two biggest threats; Overlord and the terrifying Black Zarak are set to link up in space to begin their combined assault on earth, Ginrai realizes that all he can do is rocket up to the moon to intercept them. Solo. Despite these seemingly impossible odds, Ginrai is able to hold his own in what is perhaps his finest hour. He truly went from ‘cool new dude’ to heroic leader during this two on one assault - and we can thank our lucky sparks that Grand Maximus was able to arrive on the scene just in time.

#2: Touch, Power, Etc.

Alright, alright, you knew it was coming - but a lot of you would be furious if we didn’t include it. This scene from Transformers the Movie encapsulates everything that is awesome about the leader of the autobots. From the moment he takes off towards autobot city, Optimus’s aura is simply off the charts. He takes down every Decepticon in his way until he’s finally face to face with his arch nemesis. Here he more than proves that he was always the better fighter, as Megatron has no choice but to cheat. Regardless, he still takes the W and saves all his allies in the process. Just a shame about what happened next.

#1: A True Hero

When you say the words “Beast Wars” people’s minds will automatically jump to this incredible episode. Being a former predacon, Dinobot was always kept at arms length by certain members of the Maximals. But he certainly proved here that he was one of the good guys, but had to pay the ultimate price in order to do so. With the Predacons targeting the human ancestors, Dinobot realizes he’s the only one who can stop the erasure of the entire human race. With no other maximals to turn to, Dinobot decides he’s going to stop them all by himself and incredibly… he does. Alas, the wounds he accumulates through the battle are simply too much and his spark goes out while surrounded by his true allies. What an absolute badass.
