Hailing from Tumba, Sweden, Amon Amarth is a heavy metal band formed in 1988 under the original name Scum. The band's newer moniker was taken from author J.R.R. Tolkien's invented world of Middle Earth. Sometimes categorized as Viking metal, Amon Amarth derives their lyrical content and imagery from Norse mythology.
