Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom - Satisfying Sequel Or Crappy Cash Grab? Mojo @ The Movies Review

With the fourth installment in the rebooted “Planet of the Apes” franchise swinging into theaters late Spring, fans were eager to get a glimpse at director Wes Ball’s anticipated sci-fi actioner. And, thanks to its trailer, they got quite an eyeful. Set centuries in the future, the apes are shown to be the clear dominant species as humans have been reduced to living as savages. We see tyrannical leader Proximus Caesar build up his empire all while a young ape, Noa, saves a human girl. Noa’s defiant journey is said to determine the future for apes and humans alike. And, as seen in the dramatic preview, it looks like it will be an explosive clash!

#9: “The Fall Guy” (2024)

“The Fall Guy” trailer features all the action you’d expect for a movie centered on a stuntman! The preview introduces us to Ryan Gosling’s Colt - a professional stuntman who is thrown into a world of real-life danger. Colt goes undercover to find the missing lead of his current film. Did we mention that film is being directed by his ex-girlfriend, Jody – played by Emily Blunt? The trailer provides glimpses of some pretty amazing stunts too, including a supposed 150-foot fall and a scene where Gosling “surfs through the streets of Sydney, Australia, towed behind a moving vehicle.” Of course, the blaring Bon Jovi banger, “You Give Love a Bad Name,” is also a nice touch!

#8: “The Crow” (2024)

While Rupert Sanders' upcoming remake of the 1994 cult classic “The Crow” is no doubt divisive (to say the least), there’s no denying the film’s trailer is brutally compelling. In this latest screen adaptation of the comic book anti-hero, Bill Skarsgård stars as vigilante Eric Draven. Meanwhile, musical artist/actress FKA Twigs plays his doomed fiancée Shelley Webster. The film’s preview shows touching moments from the pair’s relationship before their tragic end. It also shows glimpses of Eric’s transformation, not to mention his blood-soaked acts of revenge. Despite many fans coming down hard on Skarsgård’s updated look, not to mention the original film’s director throwing shade of his own, the movie’s trailer promises a uniquely visceral viewing experience.

#7: “Monkey Man” (2024)

Dev Patel’s directorial feature debut, “Monkey Man,” could very well be the action movie of the year – if its kick-ass trailer is any indication. Patel also stars in the movie as Kid, a young man who competes in an underground fight club where he dons a monkey mask. With rage boiling inside, Kid enters a quest for vengeance against those who killed his mother and victimize the powerless. The trailer is naturally action-packed and filled with everything from hand-to-hand combat to explosions. And, if it gives off “John Wick” vibes, it may be because it shares that film’s producers. Jordan Peele also serves as a producer, making this even more of a tantalizing coming attraction.

#6: “Back to Black” (2024)

From “Bob Marley: One Love” to “Elvis,” it is clear audiences love a good musical biopic! Well, next stop on the biopic movie train is late singer/songwriter Amy Winehouse. The trailer for “Back to Black” provides glances at Amy’s early beginnings as a North London jazz musician, her rise to mega stardom, and subsequent troubled lifestyle. “Industry” star Marisa Abela plays the Grammy winning singer, and boy oh boy does she look and sound the part! Of course, most importantly, the movie trailer features some of Amy’s renowned songs, including “Rehab” and “Back to Black.” And what can we say, it’s all music to our ears!

#5: “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” (2024)

Top 10 Things to Remember Before Godzilla vs Kong

How big can they go? The fifth film in the Monsterverse franchise looks to be another colossal clash of killer kaijus. The hard-hitting trailer lays out the return of the titans in a world of a new form. They will have an undiscovered threat to deal with this time around – one that could spell the end of days for both mankind and monsters. We see some cool additions to these fan-favorite characters too. Kong is sporting a metallic arm and Godzilla's atomic breath has gone red. The preview shows the carnage will be high and beast mode moments will be aplenty. Oh, we are also treated to the introduction of a “mini-Kong.” How cute.

#4: “Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice” (2024)

After 36 years, it’s showtime once again! And while the teaser trailer for Tim Burton’s long-awaited sequel to his 80’s classic may be brief, it remains *ahem* juicy. In it, we see three generations of the Deetz family attending a funeral. There’s Delia and her now grown daughter Lydia, as well as Lydia’s own daughter Astrid, portrayed by Jenna Ortega. It’s Astrid who appears to summon our titular troublemaker this time around as she discovers the miniature model where he resides. Lydia runs to stop her but it’s too late, because as a returning Michael Keaton gleefully declares: “The juice is loose!” Oh, having the teaser set to a children's choir rendition of "Day-O (The Banana Boat Song)” was a great choice!

#3: “Civil War” (2024)

Filmmaker Alex Garland’s next film looks to be another unsettling and twisted offering. The trailer for A24’s dystopian thriller, “Civil War,” sets the stage for a frightening vision of what America would look like should another Civil War come about. The trailer explains that 19 states have seceded with mentions of the "Western Forces" of California and Texas, as well as the "Florida Alliance." We get a good look at the film’s characters, including Kirsten Dunst as a reporter and Nick Offerman as the President of the United States. The chilling premise is expertly teased throughout the preview with plenty of nail-biting scenarios, including one involving a very intimidating Jesse Plemons.

#2: “Alien: Romulus” (2024)

Also in:

Alien vs. Predator Movie Franchises

The teaser trailer for Fede Álvarez upcoming “Alien” film serves as a tensely terrifying preview of what’s to come in the franchise’s seventh installment. The “Alien: Romulus” trailer begins in familiar fashion. You see, with the camera slowly panning through the spaceship, it nods to the opening shot of Ridley Scott’s OG “Alien” film. Things come to a halt when we see a literal bloody scene followed by the audio command “run.” We’re then shown a flurry of chaotic visuals that will no doubt make your heart beat exceptionally faster. Young actress Cailee Spaeny appears to be getting the hero treatment here, but she will no doubt have her work cut out for her in the face of the deadly Xenomorphs.

#1: “Deadpool & Wolverine” (2024)

Deadpool to Cast James Bond for Cable?! – The CineFiles Ep. 4

“Deadpool & Wolverine” promises to be one of the biggest films of the year - and the movie’s trailer shows just enough to pique our interest. It also made us crave more! The teaser opens with plenty of familiar faces as the “Merc WIth a Mouth” celebrates his birthday. There are new faces in the ad too, not to mention some surprising ones - notably Pyro from the previous “X-Men” films. We also get plenty of the Time Variance Authority and their plans for Wade. Unfortunately, we only get the smallest of glimpses at the other hero who occupies the movie’s title – Wolverine. But even though he is only on screen for a second, we gotta say we’re already digging his new costume! What movie trailer made you sit up and take notice?
