Top 10 Haikyuu Anime Moments

Karasuno…FIGHT! Welcome to WatchMojo.com and today we are counting down our picks for the Top 10 Greatest Haikyuu Moments.
For this list, we’ll be looking at the most iconic scenes to come from what many consider to be the modern pinnacle of sports anime. As such, be on the lookout for just as many spoilers as there are spikes!

#10: Yamaguchi, Pinch Server

It’s fair to say that Tadashi Yamaguchi isn’t exactly superstar material when compared to the rest of his team-mates. That being said, he’s still committed to Karasuno Volleyball Club, and so he was more than willing to put in the time and effort needed to perfect his serving skills. But his efforts didn’t always reap the rewards, so when it came to the big rematch against Aoba Josei, we were pretty nervous when he turned up on the court…
Thankfully, he managed to bust out his signature Jump Float Serve. Way to hang in there Yamaguchi!

#9: Enter Ushijima

Sheesh, you can tell this guy is a beast just by looking at him!
As the captain and ace for Shiratorizawa Academy, Ushijima was widely regarded as one of the best volleyball players around, not to mention the perfect foil for Hinata and Kageyama as their new foe. Upon their first meeting, this guy displayed nothing but disrespect for those he didn’t consider strong. But a certain firecracker doesn’t take that well, and so Hinata declares war, promising to defeat him in their upcoming match.
The intensity, animosity, it all served as the perfect foundation for the inevitable battle!

#8: Oikawa’s Epic Serve

Despite being a certified pretty boy, it’s clear that Oikawa is a demon on the court, which he proceeds to demonstrate to everyone with this monster of a move. As Karasuno continues to push back, the ace setter of Aoba Josei has no choice but to show his full strength. With but a single serve, he manages to rocket past all of Karasuno’s defences at such blinding speed that everyone is left shocked to the core.
He may be a smug jerk, but you can’t deny that the kid has got major talent!

#7: Tsukishima Awakens

For the most part, Tsukishima has been the sour one of the team. Pretty up himself, too cool for the group dynamic etc. You know the type. That is until he has something of a badass epiphany during the finals against Shiratorizawa. After finding himself finally embracing the fact that he digs the sport, Tsukishima is able to pull off what no one thought possible; he took on one of Ushijima’s devastating spikes and managed to block the crap out of it. Who knew he had it in him?

#6: Nishinoya’s Footwork

Every member of Karasuno is dedicated to the core, and always willing to do what it takes to push the team on. That being said, Nishinoya is in a league of his own. Known as the team’s guardian angel, this libero will happily batter and bruise every part of his body just keep the ball in play. He’s had many great moments over the series, but none can compare to the time where he managed to save the day with some damn fancy footwork. Talk about flexible.

#5: Always Look Up

Coach Ukai may seem a bit rough around the edges, but when it comes to bringing back the team from the depths of despair, there’s no one better suited for the job. With Ushijima continuing to crush them at every play, it looks like the team’s spirits are on the verge of breaking. At least until Ukai steps in, where he tells them to never look down, only look up, as is the nature of volleyball. It may be a short speech, but it sure packs a punch.

#4: Crows vs. Cats

It may not have been an official match, but the battle against Nekoma was nonetheless vital in allowing Karasuno to spread their wings. Through their confrontation, Hinata discovers the thrill of rivalry, their team’s spirit skyrockets, and it even breathes new life into the normally nihilistic Kenma. Sure, it’s not as epic as their other playoffs, but it more than served to whet everyone’s appetites for their upcoming matches. Needless to say, without the cat, the crows may not have found the will to soar again.

#3: Legendary Comeback

The rematch against Aoba Josei was undoubtedly the most anticipated event of the entire series, and boy did it not fail to deliver! After recovering from their crippling loss, Karasuno returns to the fray and demonstrates their growth as both a team and as individual players against their bitter rivals. While Oikawa’s immense skill proves to be a fierce obstacle to overcome, everyone’s combined might manages to pave the way for Hinata to land that last spike, managing to secure their long-sought victory in the process.

#2: Eat and Grow

Despite pulling out all the stops, giving it their all and pushing themselves beyond their limits, Karasuno’s first official match against Aoba Josei still ends in their defeat, and it is a bitter pill to swallow. What follows is a truly heart-breaking scene as Coach Ukai takes the boys out to a restaurant to ease the pain of their loss. All they can do is eat and cry in silence. It’s a tough sight to take in, made all the more potent by Ukai’s gentle narration, where he promises that little by little they will find the strength to rise again.

#1: The Final Match Point

Shiratorizawa were undoubtedly the strongest foes that Karasuno have faced thus far, mainly due to Ushijima being a somewhat unstoppable force of nature.
However, with their use of total defence, synchronization and sheer willpower, the formally flightless crows manage to find a way to pull off the impossible and win.
With one final spike, Hinata lands that decisive point, earning Karasuno a place in the nationals. Given the trials and tribulations the team had to go through, seeing them pull off something like this in the face such stern opposition was downright spectacular!
