#3: “Men in Black” Sequel in the Works from “Iron Man” Writers

Yes! Here they come, indeed! The minds over at Sony have a spinoff in the works which will see the Men in Black back in action once again. Sony has hired writers Matt Holloway and Art Marcum to write the movie, who both penned the script for Marvel’s Iron Man. The script will focus on a new story, with new characters, so Agents K and J, AKA, Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones will not be appearing in the spinoff. While two big names are left off, another emerges, with Steven Spielberg joining the production as an executive producer. According to Deadline, the film will focus more so on a large, global threat than the previous MIB films, and will try to emulate the way Jurassic World rebooted the iconic dinosaur franchise. Interestingly enough, this is the first official MIB project to be announced by Sony, when most industry people thought it would be the MIB, 21 Jump Street crossover.

#2: James Cameron Casts Kate Winslet for “Avatar” Sequel

The reunion is official! After working together on the immensely successful Titanic, James Cameron and Kate Winslet will find themselves on set together once again for the director’s Avatar sequels. Winslet is set to play a character named Ronal, but it’s still unclear who the character is or how many of the sequels she will appear in. Cameron recently made waves in Hollywood after he revealed he’d be shooting four Avatar sequels back to back, with the films costing a collective $1 billion. Now, he’s at the forefront of headlines again after casting Winslet, who after shooting Titanic, said she would never work with the filmmaker again, unless it was for a lot of money. 20th Century Fox has Avatar 2 scheduled for December 18, 2020, with the following sequels opening in 2021, 2024 and 2025.

Before we get to our final entry, here are a couple new releases:

“Blade Runner 2049” (2017)
“The Florida Project” (2017)

#1: Jared Leto to Star as Hugh Hefner in New Biopic

Looks like the Oscar-winning actor is slipping into Hugh’s iconic red, silk pajamas! According to The Hollywood Reporter, Brett Ratner has cast Jared Leto to play the infamous Hugh Hefner in a biopic that dissects the rise of the business mogul behind Playboy. Ratner has been trying to get the green light for the project since 2007, but the production kept falling through. At one point, even Robert Downey Jr. was attached to star. Now, with the movie being produced by Ratner’s own RatPack productions, it looks like it will finally be made. “I want to play him. I want to understand him.” Leto told Ratner. “I really believe he can do it. He’s one of the greatest actors today.” If Ratner has his way, this won’t be the only Playboy project he takes on, as he hopes to revive the talk show Playboy After Dark, which was hosted by Hefner in the late ‘60s.
