Another Top 10 Modern Wedding Songs

These are the songs that you’ll want to hear while holding that special someone in the happiest day of your life. Welcome to WatchMojo.com and today we are counting down Another Top 10 Modern Wedding Songs.

For this list, we’ve taken a look at the weddings songs that were the most popular over the last few years and put together another ten entries. Be sure to check out our previous list if you feel we’ve missed an obvious one, also these are strictly modern entries, so classic tracks that may have had a resurgence of popularity don’t count.

#10: “My Eyes” (2014)
Black Shelton feat. Gwen Sebastian

Nothing like a little bit of country to inspire romance, however this one takes it a little further by adding a bit of spice to it. While it’s sure to compliment a first dance of the happy couple, you can bet that Shelton’s acoustic backing and sensual lyrics will certainly help when it comes to the marriage consummation. With backing vocals from singer-songwriter Gwen Sebastian, this song proves that you can’t have a wedding without a little after-celebration intimacy.

#9: “Chasing Cars” (2006)
Snow Patrol

It still remains a classic in the UK and US after all this time, so it’s no surprise it comes highly recommended as a wedding song. Snow Patrol’s vocalist Gary Lightbody stated that out of all the songs he had written for the band, this was “purest love song that he had ever written” and that’s certainly reflected in the lyrics. Absent of any dark edges or hidden meanings, “Chasing Cars” is truly a song you’ll want to listen to while looking into the eyes of that special somebody.

#8: “Falling Slowly” (2006)
Glen Hassard and Markéta Irglová

Simple, soft and poignant. It’s no wonder it grabbed an Academy Award for Best Original Song. Featured in the 2007 film “Once”, this indie-folk ballad gained the attention of Bob Dylan who was mesmerized by the duo’s chemistry and wanted to tour with the musicians. An intimate track about the nature of hope, Glen Hassard and Marketa Irglov blend their vocals in such a way that it feels as though you are listening to two people fall deeper in love the longer song goes on. Needless to say, it’s easily reciprocated for lovers who listen to it.

#7: “Make You Feel My Love” (2008)
Adele

This British Queen of Love Songs caught the attention of a lot of listeners when she put her spin on the Bob Dylan classic! The final single off her debut album, many radio stations hailed it as one of the best covers of the original, and due to her powerful vocals, introduced the song to a new generation. Featuring some classic Dylan songwriting, and Adele’s soulful vocals, this would make the perfect arrangement for any special day. Although her cover of The Cure’s Lovesong was also a contender, in the end this cover just inched over it in the feels-department.

#6: “I Won’t Give Up” (2012)
Jason Mraz

If there ever was a song that you needed to really summarise your feelings for your partner, this would be a clear contender. An ode to the pursuit, the cherishing and the memory of relationships, it’s a beautiful song that serves as a true testament to how much your significant other feels about you. Best be able to live up to the expectation, ‘cause once you play this little number you are making some big promises!

#5: “You and I” (2005)
Michael Bublé

Back on the subject of covers, Bublé decided that he would put his own little spin on this Stevie Wonder classic, and not surprisingly it was a huge hit with the ladies. So much so that it very quickly became a must-have for numerous first dances back in the 2000s. With the talent of two of the smoothest singers alive backing it, this song was guaranteed to make it into the hearts of happy couples everywhere.

#4: “She Keeps Me Warm” (2013)
Mary Lambert

Originating from a chorus that she wrote for the song “Same Love” with hip-hop artist Macklemore, Mary Lamberts’ debut single strikes a powerful chord, not only for its beautiful sound but also for it touching subject matter. Emotionally poignant due to Lambert’s stance as a gay woman and a gay activist, it’s no wonder that it became the song of choice for couples of all sexuality when it came time for their special day.

#3: “How Long Will I Love You?” (2013)
Ellie Goulding

Yet another cover! Sticking with the trend is this breakout songwriter and Brit Award winner with her take on the less commercially successful track by The Waterboys. With her angelic vocals and the song’s message of everlasting commitment and love, not only was it a must for weddings but also became the official track of the BBC’s annual Children In Need Appeal show. The perfect slow dance track, the lyrics are almost fully synonymous with the theme of love, making it perfect for any weddingceremony.

#2: All of Me (2013)
John Legend

There was no way this wasn’t going to make the list. Not only did it dominate the charts in both the United States and the United Kingdom, not only did become one of the best-selling songs of 2014, but was written and based around John Legend’s at-the-time fiancée, who he ultimately ended at marrying. With such a ceremonial edge to it, is it really any surprise that it became the song of choice for couples last year?

Before our number one pick says I do, here are a few honourable mentions

Marry Me (2013)
Jason Derulo

Wanted (2012)
Hunter Hayes

Only Love (2012)
Ben Howard

I Choose You (2014)
Sara Bareilles

Ho Hey (2012)
The Lumineers

#1: “Thinking Out Loud” (2014)
Ed Sheeran

There was no country that was safe from the power of this romantic ballad, as it managed to dominate charts globally. Not only did it strike a chord with casual listeners, but as you would have expected was a perfect fit for weddings. In the singer’s own words, the song was created with atmosphere of “walking down the aisle”. If that was its intended demographic, then Mr. Sheeran hit the nail on the head, as it encapsulates everything beautiful and magical about the happiest day in a couple’s life.
