Unclear rules

2 0
Paolo De Laurentiis 9 years ago Report
From "what is a catch" to "how can a defender tackle without drawing a personal foul penalty," it seems as though NFL rules have become more vague season after season. Even players have expressed confusion over what are they supposed to do now to avoid being penalized and fined by the league. Include removing player celebrations, it seems as though

Too many penalties

Paolo De Laurentiis 9 years ago Report
This is similiar to the previous submission of "unclear rules." It seems like now, whenever there is a big play, a penalty flag is almost expected to be thrown, negating exticing plays on offense or defense. Any time there is a big hit, the referees seem to want to throw a personal foul flag, regardless if the hit is within the legal parameters of

Over commercialization

Paolo De Laurentiis 9 years ago Report
With a seemingly 12-month cycle of the NFL in the media, massive endorsement deals with Nike, to players being fined for not wearing league approved pregame warmup apparel (see RG3 in 2012), it seems like making as much of a profit as possible has begun to take precedent over quality of play on the field.

Over-emphasis on passing

Paolo De Laurentiis 9 years ago Report
Nothing is wrong with a good deep pass play or a high-powered offense. But, after a while, seeing teams throw the ball a combined 80-plus times a game on a regular basis grows boring. Especially with many of the passes coming on wide spread formations, on screen and underneath routes. It grows boring and predictable.

Too many uniform changes

1 0
Paolo De Laurentiis 9 years ago Report
Some teams uniforms are timeless and should not be altered. The Cleveland Browns are an example. But, even they have decided to change one of the leagues best and simplest jersey designs to a new school, over emblazoned mess. New jerseys, alternate jerseys, and now, Color Rush jerseys serve no other purpose than for brands like Nike to sell more pr

Roger Goodell'stenure as commissioner

1 0
Paolo De Laurentiis 9 years ago Report
To say Roger Goodell has been polarizing as Commissioner is an understatement. His "judge, jury, and executioner" approach to running the league has caused numerous lawsuits, and drawn the ire of owners. Couple that with totally inconsistent applications of rules and a seemingly permanent state of controversey, it seems as though the NFL is becomin

Reduction of reliance on the running game

1 0
Paolo De Laurentiis 9 years ago Report
While many would agree that 3-yards and a cloud of dust 50 times a game, would make for an unentertaining product in the television age, a good, power running game is still a highly revered part of the game. But, nowadays, teams have shifted away from running attacks, and even dispose of running backs as they would kickers. You are lucky to see a g

Hard salary cap

1 0
Paolo De Laurentiis 9 years ago Report
While parity is a good thing, the NFL takes it a bit too far with it's hard salary cap and extreme player salaries. The NFL requires a far greater amount of players per roster than any other sport, and also suffers much more and severe injuries than any other sport. Many teams have a large portion of their entire salary cap eaten up by only a handf

Kick offs moved too far up, almost eliminating kickoff returns

1 0
Paolo De Laurentiis 9 years ago Report
The kickoff is one of the most exciting aspects of the game. An example is the opening kickoff of the Super Bowl, when the cameras are flashing as the ball is in the air. The crowd waits in anticipation to see a big return, and a kickoff return for a touchdown is one of the most exciting plays in all of sports. Kickoffs have been moved up to the 35

Probowl moves to week before Super Bowl

1 1
Paolo De Laurentiis 9 years ago Report
While the Pro Bowl game may not be the best television, it was still a nice way to close out the season. After the Super Bowl, the leagues best players were honored with a trip to Hawaii, and the entire week leading up to the Pro Bowl had many events which the fans loved, such as former players and NFL legends playing in flag football games, skills
