This is a perfect example as the Green Lantern comics started to lack direction during the 2000s. The most famous Green Lantern, Hal Jordan, went through a lot of changes that saw him become a villain, then a spirit of vengeance and God knows where up to the point he has become unusable. Rebirth brought him back to the public mind in a major way.

Despite being a popular team in Marvel Comics, the Avengers comics was losing sales in the early 2000s. Brian Michael Bendis wrote a story that destroyed the team and followed it with the series New Avengers where he built them back up. Since that time, the Avengers comics rose to great prominence in Marvel's line and saw many spin-offs.
