Because of Paul W.S. Anderson, he's already made it know to the public that he wants to make this series into a film. Furthermore his proposed synopsis sounds terrible.

Since Hideo Kojima is not longer attached to the series or Konami, any attempt to compress a long and conveluted story would more than likely result in disaster.

One of Metroid's main themes is isloation, which is a topic that doesn't work very well with a mainstream popcorn viewing audience, at least according to big budget hollywood. So an adaptation would almost certainly result in it straying from the source material.
