These two wars are overshadowed by the war they set up: World War I. The 1st war featured an alliance of Balkan countries easily defeating the Ottoman Empire and nearly pushing the empire out of Europe. Territorial desputes between Bulgaria and former allies Greece & Serbia led to the 2nd war with the Balkan nations in arms against Bulgaria

The Tsardom of Russia fought a coalition of nations for territory in Livonia. This coalition featured Sweeden, Poland - Lithuania and Denmark - Norway. The long war dragged on for years. Russia was on the losing side and rather than gaining territory lost it's territory on the Baltic Coast

2nd Boer War (1899-1902)

When gold was discover in two African nations, it caught the attention of Great Britain and led to tensions. The Boers launched a pre-emptive strike, but were beaten back by the British. The Boers then switched to guerrilla warfare. The British then destroyed Boer agriculture and detained Boer women & children in the first ever concentration camps.

Greece didn't go alone when they fought the Ottoman Empire for their independence. Russia fought their arch rival to cripple their influence in the Balkans. This got Great Britain and France into the war on the side of Greece and Russia to check the power of Russia. When the Ottomans were defeated, it was all down hill in the Balkans from there

Prussia was seeking to unify Germany, but Austria had the same ambitions. Prussia needed to force Austria out of the picture. Prussia and its German allies fought Austria and their German allies. Italy sided with Prussia. A decisive Prussian victory at Sadova forced Austria to agree to a peace treaty and ended their involvement in unifying Germany

It was believed that Maria Theresa was not suited to rule Austria by most of Europe. Prussia took advantage and annexed Silesia. France, Spain, Sweden allied with Prussia while Britian, Russia, the Netherlands allied with Autstria. Russia was determined to not allow any more former Soviet Republics to gain independence. Hence when Chechnya declared independence, Russia went to war. It first started as traditional engagement that evolved into an insurgency. Russia succeded in holding on to Chechnya, but lost billions of dollars and suffered huge casualties in the war

The Empire of the Rising Sun is on the rise. To dominate influence in the region, the Japanese attacked the Qing Dynasty in Korea and easily won the war. This lead to the Japanese annexing Taiwan and eventually Korea. The defeat crippled the Qing Dynasty by creating public outcry that would eventually lead to the collapse of the Monarchy
