Enemies stats increase (Usually in RPGs) as you level up; can make one feel like that progressing through levels is meaningless

Enemies have massive HP or defense and be seemingly unfazed by bullets, no matter how many shots you pour into them; can apply to non-shooter games as well
When you are hit by an attack, your character briefly staggers and is unable to do anything, causing you to get hit by multiple attacks in rapid succession
