As good as Death Note is, it is NOT a good anime to get people interested in watching Anime. It's really dark and philosophical and requires time to digest and understand. It potentially has the ability to confuse and turn viewers away from Anime.

This is the one that got me into anime. I love both the original and Brotherhood equally; they're both amazing. Plus, I think the acting is phenominal in either version, as well as the story and characters.

Bebop is all time great but it isn't necessarily the best gateway anime. Bebop sets the bar too high and is not a simple show. Spike is an extremely complicated character and I honestly feel you need to watch Bebop a few times to fully start grasping its subtlties.
This is definitely NOT a good introductory anime! It contains a lot of death, gore, and has many under developed characters as there is only one season of it. The unsolved mystery aspect is a turn off to new anime watchers
It was a good choice back in the 90's definatly, and I'm not trying to knock it's actually quality, but it will be difficult for people today to get past all the starring, screaming, and overblown monolouges.

The main story arcs are written with such a strong plot, I can't say the same for the fillers but they aren't as bad either.
