In the introduction, Floop (Alan Cumming) reads the audience a summary of the original Spy Kids, calling it story about "thumb-thumbs" and asking the audience if they thought they liked the story. He also says to go buy refreshments at the theater, a comment which was not removed for the film's video release.

At certain points in the film, The Mask (Jim Carrey) speaks directly to the camera. At one point, he gives a melodramatic "last speech" to two gunmen, until a hand pops up from the side of the screen and gives him an Oscar, at which point the Mask goes "You like me! You really like me!" to the audience.

After Bugs puts popcorn in an alien helmet, he persuades moviegoers to get a refreshment at the snack bar. Finally, just before the end credits, Porky does his "That's all, folks!" line, but the studio's about to close, so he just says "Go home, folks." Then, the final light goes out, and the movie ends.

The characters state that they have lines to say, they are cartoons, and that somebody has to write a script for them to do things, early in the movie. Also at the end, Fat Albert (Kenan Thompson) appears to pop out of the screen and tells the audience to watch the end credits.
