Writing out lead characters and bringing in poor copies of them nearly caused this classic series to be cancelled midway through its final season.

There's mixed feelings on this one. Rumors of back stage drama and diva demands swirled when Doherty's Prudence Halliwell left this series in a rather permanent way (she was killed) after its third season and replace by McGowan as long-lost younger half-sister, Paige Matthews. Some say the episodes with Prue were better and never watched again.

Of course, we know why White and McClanahan left: the show was put on hiatus and by the time it came back, they had successfully been cast on "The Golden Girls." Archer as the spinster neighbor and do-it-yourself crafty maniac Iola was a delightful character.

We didn't get to see enough of Ann as the flirtatious cougar Lana and Don Knotts as the dorky, romantically challenged Mr. Furley never really did anything for me. I much prefered the chemistry of Helen (Lindley) and Stanley Roper (Fell).

Polly Holliday's Florence "Flo" Jean Castleberry was the feisty waitress everyone loved and gave a whole generation of viewers a new catchphrase: "Kiss my grits!" Though when she was written out of the show and given her own spinoff, the show was never the same. The chemistry with Ladd's Belle and Weston's Jolene between the remaining series regul

When Angie Harmon left "Law & Order" to start a family, Elisabeth Rohm was brought in. While Rohm's acting talent was more apparent on "Angel," her delivery on opposite series veterans, including Sam Waterston, seemed flat.

Jerry Orbach's wisecracking Detective Lennie Briscoe was a staple of the show for twelve seasons. When he left the series at the end of its fourteenth season, a lot of fans brought the gavel down on "Law & Order" permanently. Dennis Farina was a legendary actor and adequate replacement, but the show was never the same.
