They’re Baaaaaack
While it didn’t exactly blow audiences away, there’s no denying that the one thing The Hitman’s Bodyguard had going for it was the banter, chemistry and overall hilarity between Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson as the titular protector and assassin. Apparently their violent and foul-mouthed relationship proved to be enough of a selling point to warrant a second bout, since a sequel has recently been announced and even given a name. One with way too many apostrophes.
According to an article on Empire –
In May, we learned that a sequel to action comedy The Hitman’s Bodyguard was in the works, with news arriving via a Cannes Market listing. We now also know that stars Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson will be back for more crazy behaviour in The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard.
As the title suggests, we’ll also see the return of Salma Hayek for a story that sees protection expert Michael Bryce hired by Darius Kincaid (Jackson) and his wife Sonia (Hayek) to join them on a mission along the Amalfi Coast. Patrick Hughes is back to direct again, working from a script by Brandon and Phillip Murphy.
The cameras will be rolling in March on what looks to be a chance for the stars to squeeze some lovely holiday time into their shooting schedule.
Granted, many were in agreement that Salma Hayak’s portrayal of Kincaid’s murderous wife made for some of the film’s most entertaining moments. Having the sequel focus around her unhinged antics does at least provide a premise that we can get behind. One thing is for sure, there’s going to be a non-stop onslaught of the cast screaming out “motherf***er!” all throughout the film.
