Take That Halloween Candy To The Movies
November may seem like a quiet month, with Halloween having just concluded and the hustle and bustle of holiday season approaching slowly, but what better way to spend a gap month than at the movies getting caught up on all these exciting releases that are sure to keep you entertained. We’re counting down 5 new and long-awaited movie releases of this month, some of which are even receiving award buzz and others are simply fan favourites we’re more than ready to hit the theatres for.
#5: âBohemian Rhapsodyâ
Release Date: November 2, 2018 [U.S.]
This Queen biopic had a fascinating production to say the least. After spending years in development hell, Bryan Singer signed on to direct. Due to several behind the scene problems, though, Singer was fired and replaced with Dexter Fletcher. The film also lost its long-intended star, Sacha Baron Cohen, along the way. With so many complications, can the filmmakers emerge as champions or will another one bite the dust? If the buzz surrounding Rami Malekâs performance as Freddie Mercury is any indication, weâre confident that âBohemian Rhapsodyâ could still end up being magnifico.
#4: âFantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwaldâ
Release Date: November 16, 2018 [U.S.]
âHarry Potter and the Cursed Childâ won the Tony Award for Best Play in June 2018 and now the âFantastic Beastsâ sequel is set to make a mint at the box office. The magic of this franchise simply never runs out. Granted, âThe Crimes of Grindelwaldâ has received some backlash due to the casting of Johnny Depp. However, the film is still sure to expand upon J. K. Rowlingâs wizarding world in a satisfying way with the introductions of Jude Law as a young Albus Dumbledore and Brontis Jodorowsky as Nicolas Flamel.
#3: âCreed IIâ
Release Date: November 21, 2018 [U.S.]
âCreedâ was the spin-off/sequel nobody knew they wanted, breathing new life into the âRockyâ series while also remaining true to its roots. Due to his commitment to âBlack Panther,â Ryan Coogler was unable to direct the sequel. Michael B. Jordan is back as Adonis Creed, however, this time going up against the son of Ivan Drago, who, as you might remember, killed his father in the ring over 30 years ago. Sure, the plot may sound a little contrived, but that didnât stop its predecessor from delivering a knockout.
#2: âBoy Erasedâ
Release Date: November 2, 2018 [U.S.]
Joel Edgerton’s adaptation of Garrard Conleyâs memoir of the same title is receiving an uproar of critical acclaim after its debut at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival. The film is another one released this year that confronts the subject of conversion therapy, alongside âThe Miseducation of Cameron Post,â directed by Desiree Akhavana. While both films are set in the recent past, the issues and concerns at the forefront are frighteningly current. According to The New York Times, only fourteen states and the District of Columbia have outlawed conversion therapy, “which still leaves a lot of young people vulnerable to the kind of treatment Jared undergoes”. Rolling Stone went on to praise the film saying “Boy Erased hits you like a shot”, with Lucas Hedges, Nicole Kidman and Russell Crowe working together in perfect harmony.
#1: âRalph Breaks the Internetâ
Release Date: November 21, 2018 [U.S.]
When it was announced that a âWreck-It Ralphâ sequel was in development, we expected to just get a few more video game character cameos. Disney has opened up the floodgates for âRalph Breaks the Internet,â though, making room for all of their major properties to pop up. With characters from Star Wars, Marvel, the Disney Princess line, and numerous others making appearances, this has the potential to be the most mind-blowing crossover of the year, which is saying a lot since we already got âAvengers: Infinity War.â
