Top 3 Worst Halloween Sequels

Some Scares Are Best Left Forgotten

Halloween 2018 has breathed new life into a franchise that had reached well below the bottom of the barrel, returning Michael Myers to the podium of terror for the first time in decades. While his latest cinematic outing reminded us of just how terrifying and unstoppable The Shape can be, that hasn’t always been the case. We’re glad he’s back in fighting form, but there’s no denying that he’s had some low point across his killing career.

#3: “Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers” (1989)

The bloody twist at the end of the previous instalment certainly made for heck of a cliffhanger, with Michael’s niece Jaime apparently following in his murderous footsteps. However, that was all scrapped in the sequel, which turned out to be very much on the boring side of things, filled with so many subplots and sequel-baits that it drained what little fun it had. It also features literal bumbling cops with their own clown theme. Seriously.

#2: “Halloween Resurrection” (2002)

This film is practically the anti-Halloween. After all, it does feature Busta Rhymes doing kung fu and trying to kick the crap out of Michael. It’s so insane that it actually turns out to be quite a fun time if you just turn off your brain and don’t think of it as an insult to the character. Don’t get us wrong, it’s still a terrible movie, but it’s perhaps the only one in the franchise that falls into the “so bad, it’s good” category.

#1: “Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers” (1995)

The culmination of a terrible subplot that tried to give backstory to Michael’s supposed supernatural origins, this film may have given us one of Paul Rudd’s first performances, but that’s hardly enough to save it from being a convoluted mess. The Cult of Thorn proved to be nothing more than a needless addition that it did endless damage to one of the horror genre’s most iconic characters.
