A Night of Virtual Frights
If there’s one genre that’s constantly seeking new ways to expand its horizons and reinvent itself in video games, it would be horror. From sci-fi scares all the way to classic hauntings, modern gaming has found a whole plethora of ways to make players run for the light switch. With Halloween approaching, anyone looking to for a spine-tingling experience might want to load up these titles.
#3: “Resident Evil 7” (2017)
While it doesn’t have the traditional zombies of yesteryear, the Baker Family, Eveline and the Molded certainly make up for it with their psychotic, killer mentalities and gruesome transformation sequences aplenty. With the oddly expansive household serving as a backdrop, this glorious return to form will have you tip-toeing around every corner, weapon raised, praying you’re not about to encounter another infected hillbilly. With each bringing their own unique style of horror, there’s bound to be at least one member of this clan that will fill your nightmares.
#2: “Outlast” (2013)
With nothing but a camera and a whole lot of adrenaline, players have to find a way to escape a madhouse that has been overtaken by the patients, most of whom are either crazed killers or mutated monsters. With literally everything trying to hunt you down, the chase sequences in this game will have you on the edge constantly. Throw in some clever hiding mechanics and and a whole series of increasingly unnerving locations to traverse, and there’s no chance you’ll be forgetting your stay in Mount Massive Asylum.
#1: “Alien Isolation” (2014)
If you didn’t think Xenomorphs was scary before, then just wait until you are forced into a deadly game of cat and mouse with one aboard a space station. As the perfect killing machine, the titular alien leaps in like a bat out of hell at the worst possible times, hunting down the player relentlessly no matter how far they go or fast they run. You’re only option is to play smart, hide often, and hope that it doesn’t hear you breathing!
