The Shushing Will Return
By far one of the most unique and enjoyable horror films to come out of the last few years, A Quiet Place earned endless applause from fans and critics alike due to its endearing cast and a premise that paved the way for a flurry of creative scares. We never thought that we’d see the likes of John Krasinski floor us in such a way, but it just goes to show that not only do his talents defy genre, but he has one hell of an eye when it comes to directing. Though it seems he’s having a hard time of letting go of the project, since its been revealed he’s already hard at work scripting the sequel!
According to an article on Empire –
A huge part of making alien attack/noise-attuned hunters thriller A Quiet Place a success this year, John Krasinski has until now only been a consultant on the sequel that Paramount and the producers are cooking up. But now, after suggesting the studio find someone else to script the new movie, he’s officially aboard to write it.
“That was my intention for the movie itself,” Krasinski told the audience at a Q&A on Wednesday attended by The Hollywood Reporter. “Then I had this small idea for a sequel, but I didn’t think it would go anywhere. So, I said to the studio, ‘Just go do the movie with somebody else.” But even as the executives took meeting with other filmmakers to hear potential pitches, Krasinski’s idea kept itching at his brain.
“I told [producer] Drew Form about this little idea,” recalls Krasinski. “And he told me to think about it a little longer. And then I thought, ‘This might really work.’ So, I’m currently writing the sequel.”
While we’re certainly curious to see how Emily Blunt’s character manages to shepherd her children to safety following the first film’s bittersweet conclusion, here’s hoping that the idea Krasinski is cooking up will broaden the spectrum and lore of the aliens that now menace the planet.
