Shield Your Eyes!!!
It’s official…Chris Evans is done playing Captain America. Evans first took over the role in 2011 for “Captain America: The First Avenger” and has been doing the Marvel hero justice ever since, appearing in films like “The Avengers” (2012), “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” (2014), “Avengers: Age of Ultron” (2015), “Captain America: Civil War” (2016), and “Avengers: Infinity War” (2018), alongside being featured in a number of other Marvel films. Evans had alluded to hanging up his shield earlier on this year in an interview with The New York Times where he stated he’d like to “get off the train before they push you off”, but it was his tweet yesterday that solidified the news:
Officially wrapped on Avengers 4. It was an emotional day to say the least. Playing this role over the last 8 years has been an honor. To everyone in front of the camera, behind the camera, and in the audience, thank you for the memories! Eternally grateful.

Immediately following the tweet, fans lost their minds and some celebrities even chimed in to celebrate Evans’ work and share their sadness:
Iâm not crying. Iâm weeping. Thereâs a difference.

While some are left wondering whether this decision hints to Captain America’s fate at the end of “Avengers 4”, others are already thinking of potential successors from the comics like Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) or Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie). At this point, the majority of fans are still far too sad to even think about replacements yet, so a global salute to the Captain is in order. Thank you Chris Evans.
