The DCEU Could Learn A Few Things From These!
With a passion for their chosen property as well as a firm grasp of film-making, fan-made flicks have managed to dominate the online landscape. They may not have the budget, but they more than deliver when it comes to capturing the essence of the character, especially if they happen to be portraying comic book icons. Example; these three mini-masterpieces!
#3: “The Punisher: Dirty Laundry” (2012)
As one of the original actors to portray Marvel’s most infamous vigilante, Thomas Jane decided to show that even years after he had hung up his skull-shirt, he still knew how to bring the punishment to the screen in the most spectacular of ways. After encountering a group of thugs threatening a child, Frank Castle decides to unleash the beast with nothing more than some chilling one-liners and a bottle of Jack Daniels. That look like it hurt…
#2: “Casey Jones” (2011)
Countless animated and on-screen adaptations of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic have given their own interpretations of this one man army, however none have truly managed to capture to grit and violence of Mr Jones quite like this little little bloodsoaked darling. From his days as a hockey player all the way to his encounters with the Purple Dragons, we follow Casey’s from average punk to masked vigilante, as well as all the bodies he leaves along the way. Get ready to see a lot of guys get their heads smashed in with sporting goods. Goongala!
#1: “Batman: City of Scars” (2010)
This was a tough call given the numerous amounts of Batman fan-films out there, however this one just managed to pull a lead over the others for managing to not only give us some awesome action scenes, but by also diving deep into the psyche of both Batman and Gotham; exploring their symbiotic relationship in the process. We’re also just going to come out and say it; Kevin Porter should be held up as one of the definitive Dark Knights. Holy acting-chops!
