Magic, Time-Travel and Feels!
With Mari Okada’s directorial debut already causing a huge splash thanks to its incredible world-building and heartrendingly intimate narrative, Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms looks to be one of the most stunning pieces of animation to come out of 2018. Don’t worry if you missed its cinematic release though, there are plenty of other upcoming movies for you to look forward to. Make sure to mark your calendars for these for these five flicks!
#5: âMirai of the Futureâ (2018)
Itâs being directed by the genius who brought us The Girl Who Leapt Through Time and Wolf Children; of course itâs going to be bloody amazing! As a four year old with a huge chip on his shoulder about his upcoming baby sibling, the last thing Kou expected was for said sibling time suddenly appear as a young woman. Hailing from the future, Mirai seeks to show Kou the importance of being a big brother and the responsibility that comes with it. The feels are strong with this one.
#4: âFate/stay night Movie: Heaven’s Feel – II. Lost Butterflyâ (2018)
Anyone tired of the Fate-verse yet? Good, neither are we. Continuing the adaptation of the visual novelâs most legendary and emotionally draining route, Lost Butterfly looks to focus on Sakura and Shirouâs relationship following the fallout of losing Saber to the shadow. Get ready for more blinding action scenes, all the shipping you can want, and Shinji generally being an SOB. While weâre hoping that Sakura gets off lightly, knowing this showâs tendency to put her in bad situations, we wonât hold our breath.
#3: âThe Seven Deadly Sins the Movie: Prisoners of the Skyâ (2018)
Turns out that in-between all that fighting with the Ten Commandments, Meliodas and the rest of the Sins found time to get themselves their very own movie. From the looks of things, we can expect to see a swashbuckling adventure among the clouds as the formerly disgraced knights take on the threat of the Six Black Knights, all in order to protect the winged population of Sky Palace. As long as we see Ban being his smug-self and Escanor being an absolute beast, you can count us in!
#2: âMy Hero Academia the Movie: The Two Heroesâ (2018)
As if the third season of this acclaimed shounen wasnât enough, Izuku and the rest of UA High are set to get their own feature film before the year is out. While details are scarce, what has been confirmed is that the flick will feature original content unseen by manga purists, with a story that will dive further into the backstory of everyoneâs favorite hero; All Might. Weâll take any chance to explore the history of One for All and see the heroes of tomorrow bust out their Quirks, so the sooner this flick gets here the better. Plus Ultra.
#1: âDragon Ball Super Movieâ (2018)
After the action masterpiece that was the Tournament of Power, there was no way we were ready to say goodbye to Super just yet. While thereâs no concrete info about the plot, we do know that Toriyama has penned a new story that will focus on the origins of the Saiyanâs monstrous strength. Are we going to see Goku and Vegeta take on more their own kind from other universes? We certainly hope so, any excuse to see more of Gokuâs newfound power of Ultra Instinct, given he can get it back. Considering itâs the 20th movie in the franchise, weâre expecting something truly explosive!
