Crazy Ex-Girlfriend recently wrapped up its exceptional third season, leaving its dedicated fan base on pins and needles over whether or not it’ll get renewed for a fourth season.
Despite being a critical darling and even picking up the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy Series, Rachel Bloom and Aline Brosh McKenna’s wonderful show has never been a huge ratings hit, even by CW standards. This could lead to the show’s untimely cancellation and here are three reasons why we NEED to prevent that from happening.
3. It’s The Best Show You’re Not Watching
As mentioned before, its low ratings don’t at all reflect Crazy Ex-Girlfriend‘s high quality. The infectious musical numbers and clever dialog aside, this is a surprisingly deep show that treats mental illness with poignant – and at times incredibly uncomfortable – honesty. The show is equally honest in its portrayal of how relationships work, as well as how relationships don’t always work.
2. Season 3 Ended on a Major Cliffhanger
Without giving too much away, Season 3 left Rebecca Bunch on another shocking note that had us eager for more. While this cliffhanger caught viewers off guard, it could also pave the way for some unpredictable story lines and rich character development. If we don’t get to see what happens next, though, fans might be driven – for lack of a better word – crazy.
1. Big Plans For Season 4
It’s amazing just how well plotted Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is. Even the most minor details often go on to have significant comedic and emotional payoffs. While speaking with Entertainment Weekly, co-creator Aline Brosh McKenna noted, “Itâs a four-chapter arc, which weâve always assumed would be four seasons. Thatâs what weâve always told them, so Iâm assuming that that will be the case.” The showrunners are so close to bringing Rebecca’s story full circle. The censors might’ve cut the Period Sex song short, but we implore the CW not to pull the plug on Crazy Ex-Girlfriend just yet.
