The beloved sitcom Roseanne came back on the air this week, with a brand new season that turned out to be ratings gold, attracting 25 million viewers for its premiere. The episode did not come without its share of controversy though, depicting the titular character as a Trump supporter. While many were surprised by this, considering star Roseanne Barrâs recent political stance, the storyline actually makes sense. The actress is known for creating controversy, most recently causing a stir with her thoughts on Trump. But this is far from the first time she’s received backlash for her actions.
Weâre looking back at some of Barrâs most controversial moments:
5. National Anthem
Often considered the worst rendition of the National Anthem of all time, the actress shrieked her way through the song back in 1990 at the Cincinatti Reds vs San Diego Padres game. She ended the performance by grabbing her crotch and spitting, a move which many people saw as an insult to the game and the country as a whole. Needless to say her performance was met with quite a bit of booing.
4. Posing as Hitler
Photos from a 2009 photoshoot for Heeb magazine have resurfaced in the last few days, showing the actress dressed as Adolf Hilter baking cookies. These images obviously incited backlash, especially considering that Barr has made anti-semitic remarks in the past and has supported known anti-semitics.
3. Tweeting George Zimmermanâs Parentsâ Home Address
Following the fatal shooting of Trayvon Martin by police officer George Zimmerman, Roseanne tweeted out the home address and phone number of his parentsâ home. Many found the tweet inappropriate and a clear invasion of privacy.
2. Mind Control Conspiracy Theories
Barr has spoken on many occasions about the dangers of mind control, specifically on the part of the government. She even linked the Sandy Hook shooting to mind control, calling it a systemic conspiracy.
1. Trump Propaganda
Just like her character, Roseanne is a fan of President Trump and on March 31, she received backlash for tweeting false information about the Presidentâs exploits. She tweeted: “President Trump has freed so many children held in bondage to pimps all over this world. Hundreds each month. He has broken up trafficking rings in high places everywhere. notice that. I disagree on some things, but give him benefit of doubt-4 now.â The Internet were quick to retort that this is false information and accused her of spreading Trump propaganda.
the writer is so gracious to me, but, I do like the President
