On Sunday, people all over the world took to the streets for the March for Our Lives. Millions marched together to demand gun control in the United States in the wake of the tragic Parkland shooting that took the lives of 17 high school students. It was an incredibly emotional and inspiring day, with many of the survivors of the shooting giving rousing speeches. The day was also marked by many celebrity appearances, coming out in full force to support the cause.
Here are some of the celebrities who took part in the marches:
Paul McCartney
Legendary Beatles member Paul McCartney took part in the NYC march, sporting a âWe Can End Gun Violenceâ t-shirt. He spoke to CNN about why the cause is so close to his heart, saying: âone of my best friends was killed in gun violence, right around here. So itâs important to meâ. That friend is of course his former band mate John Lennon, who was shot and killed outside his apartment building in New York in 1980.
Lin-Manuel Miranda and Ben Platt
Lin Manuel Miranda and Ben Platt came together for a stirring performance of their newly released Hamilton/Dear Evan Hanson mashup âFound Tonightâ in Washington.
Miley Cyrus
The former Disney star-turned activist busted out an oldie for the Washington march, singing her ever-poignant hit âThe Climbâ.
Demi Lovato
Another powerful performance came courtesy of Demi Lovato, who commanded the stage with a performance of âSkyscraperâ.
Amy Schumer
The actress has been outspoken about the importance of gun control since the 2015 shooting at a screening of film âTrainwreckâ. In a speech in Los Angeles, she spoke to the crowd, asking how the NRA can sleep at night when so many are dying because of senseless gun violence.
