Top 3 Indie Games That Will Break Your Heart

Say Goodbye To Your Soul

It just goes to show that even without an astronomical budget, indie developers have managed to craft wonders that in many a case have managed to shatter our hearts into a million pieces. Some have long, linear narratives, others use zero dialogue, and a few even have graphics that look like they were taken from the stone age of gaming. Yet, they still manage to strike a chord with us in ways that not even certain AAA titles can.

This is especially true when it comes to the following three games, whose contrasting premises still managed to invoke unspeakable despair, longing and pretty much every kind of feel possible.

Fair warning, there are SPOILERS AHEAD!

#3: “One Chance” (2010)

As the title implies, you only have one shot to get it right. Get what right, exactly? Save the world of course! When a terrible airborne epidemic is released, it’s up to the player to choose how to spend their last few days on the planet. Do you spend every waking moment with your family right up until the end? Or do you make every second count by trying to craft a cure? No matter what path you choose to take, prepare to witness some truly upsetting sights along the way.

#2: “The Cat Lady” (2012)

On the one hand, you have a gripping and haunting tale as traumatised woman finds herself having to fight against a group of abominable individuals in order to satisfy the lethal wants of a supernatural entity. On the other, you have a game that chooses to approach topics such as suicide, revenge, pain and death with the upmost maturity, all the while never hesitating to confront the ugly truth of it all. Susan Ashworth’s journey may be riddled with tragedy and horror, but it’s one you’ll be happy you’ve experienced.
