What A Tangled Web Our Hero Weaves
Much like a certain Dark Knight, everyone’s favorite wall-crawler has no shortage of video games to his name. Some are incredible, others are fun, and a few never should have seen the light of day. That being said, we’re always eager to see more titles, just so long as the web-swinging is slick and the narrative is engaging. Probably explains why fans are so eager to get their hands on Insomnia’s upcoming Spider-Man game.
While the battle against Mister Negative is certainly an intriguing new direction for the franchise, we still feel these iconic stories should also receive their own video game adaptations!
#3: Agent Venom
It may seem weird to take the spotlight away from old web-head, but out of all of Spidey’s allies this character has the biggest potential to deliver in terms of a standalone game. Former bully turned soldier, Flash’s merger with the Venom symbiote turned him into a one man army. Not only would this allow for new combat mechanics and a spy-themed narrative to be incorporated, but also a mortality system. Does he give into the violent urges of the symbiote, or does he try to follow in Spider-Man’s path?
#2: Carnage/Carnage USA
As one of Spidey’s most sadistic foes, Cletus Kasady and his crimson-clad symbiote are long overdue for getting the video game treatment he deserves . His bloodsoaked rampage may have been covered classic games such as Maximum Carnage, but we think its only fair he gets his time to shine a game that fully explores his depravity and murderous tendencies, and not just a cameo in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.Â
#1: Spider-Verse
Yes, technically we got this in the form of the iOS game Spider-Man Unlimited, but if executed on a much grander scale this concept could be so much more. Can you imagine being able to choose from a near infinite number of Spider-Men? Travelling through different dimensions, choosing your factions, improving their skills etc. The potential for this game to be a monster hit is all there. Besides, who doesn’t love Spider-Gwen, Miles Morales and Spider Brit!
