On the heels of winning the Best Original Screenplay Oscar for Get Out, Jordan Peele is reteaming with Keegan-Michael Key for a stop-motion animated feature entitled Wendell and Wild. The comedy duo will be collaborating with director Henry Selick, who also cooked up the original story.
âWendell and Wild is a comedy about two scheming demon brothers who must face their arch-nemesis, the demon-dusting nun Sister Helly, and her two acolytes, the goth teens Kat and Raoul,â Selick told Variety.
Selick has forever solidified his status as a stop-motion master, having previously directed The Nightmare Before Christmas, James and the Giant Peach, and Coraline. In addition to Wendell and Wild, Selick is currently working on the pilot episode for a TV adaptation of the video game Little Nightmares. He’s also helming another stop-motion feature called The Shadow King, which has faced numerous setbacks since Disney pulled out. On top of all that, it’s been reported that Selick is attached to direct a live-action adaptation of A Tale Dark and Grimm.
Following their rise to fame on Mad TV, Key and Peele created and co-starred in their Emmy-winning Comedy Central sketch series. They’ve also appeared together on the big screen in films like Keanu, which Peele co-wrote. The two performers are no strangers to voiceover work either. Both have lent their voices to shows like Bob’s Burgers and SuperMansion, not to mention movies like Storks. Key will notably be voicing Kamari in Disney’s upcoming Lion King remake while Peele can be heard as the Ghost of Duke Ellington on Big Mouth.
It’s unclear when exactly we’ll get to see Wendell and Wild, but Netflix has officially picked the film up.
