He Remembers Them So You Don’t Have To!
Critics come in all shapes and sizes, but it’s fair to say that over the last decade there have been few individuals who have managed to amass the kind of popularity than this particular guy with the glasses has!
Taking the basic framework of a film review and saturating it with high production entertainment, Doug Walker and his team have managed to create an ongoing series so outrageously funny that it’s impact online continues to resonate to this day. As a result, we’ve decided to celebrate the rage-filled escapades of the Nostalgia Critic by counting down his top three reviews!
#3: The Cat in the Hat
This one is something of a double edged sword. On the one hand, the Critic seems to revel in pointing out just unfunny and downright grotesque this film is, highlighted through his reactions to Mike Myers’ cringe inducing performance. On the other, you can feel the genuine disgust he has given how much he respects the source material. His closing monologue on the importance of Dr Seuss’ books is incredibly moving and will undoubtedly make you want to go back and reread them. Watching Satan drag down the film’s producer down to hell to be tortured with a fork is just the icing on the cake.
#2: The Last Airbender/Top 11 Avatar Episodes
We’re roping these two together into one maelstrom of awesome. Not only are both reviews based around the same series, but also highlight Doug Walker’s unending love for the show. M. Night Shyamalan’s abomination gets the roasting it so rightly deserves, while the original cartoon is wholeheartedly praised for the masterpiece that it is. Following on from that, we have the crossover we never knew we wanted; Nostalgia Critic vs. Dante Basco. Not only do we get to revisit some of Avatar’s best moments, but also see the unforgettable sight of the Critic running for the hills while the voice of Zuko launches fire from his crotch.
#1: The Room
For many, their first exposure to Tommy Wiseau’s surreal train wreck of a film was through this review, where we all proceeded to share the Critic’s look of utter disbelief. Every awkward scene, every terrible line of dialogue, every nonsensical interaction, it was a medley of captivating trash that propelled the film to global infamy. While it’s all kinds of entertaining by itself, seeing the Critic slowly lose his sanity inbetween each scene just added a whole other layer of enjoyment. Oh, and that Monty Python routine he managed to sneak in? Pure gold.
