Hail Hydra
Following the success of the Avengers, the MCU kicked it into high gear as it entered the second phase of its epic twenty two film saga. Not only were we getting sequels to our beloved Captain America and Iron Man, but also being introduced to new characters such as Ant Man and the Guardians of the Galaxy. While many were sceptical about these latest additions, Marvel once again blew all expectations out of the water.
Mechanical despots, intergalactic conquerors and even the return of a certain God of Mischief, the villains of Phase Two did not fail to impress, but who was truly the biggest and baddest?
#3: Ronan
The fact that this fanatical Kree could share the stage with Thanos and remain as imposing as he did speaks volumes. With a zealous outlook and obsession with destroying the planet of Xander, this Accuser proved to be a formidable opponent for the Guardians to face. Not only was he strong enough to take them all on at once, but his reaction to Star Lord’s dance challenge is still priceless.
#2: Ultron
Captivating, childish and the instigator of one of the most devastating moments in the MCU’s history, Ultron was a being that nearly tore the Avengers apart from the inside. He has an answer for everything, sees himself as a saviour figure, utterly despises Tony Stark, has an army of robotic clones at his command and does a damn creepy Pinocchio impression. The scariest part about him is that he wanted to annihilate humanity after thirty seconds of browsing the internet…
#1: Hydra and the Winter Soldier
Who knew that Captain America and the spy thriller genre would go hand in hand? Going from World War II to modern times, Cap found himself not only battling the enigmatic killer known as the Winter Soldier, but also the thriving remnants of Hydra. Corruption, deception, the mingling of the past and present, all these elements paved the way to cement Hydra as an organisation to be truly feared. Oh, and Bucky is a total beast!
