5 Things You Need to Know About Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir

At the 2018 Winter Olympics, figure skaters Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir captured the gold…and our hearts.

The duo became the most decorated figure skaters in Olympic history and gained legions of fans with their impeccable routines, off-the-charts chemistry and tons of meme-worthy, gifable moments.

They are the Internet’s newest it-couple… only problem is, they aren’t actually a couple. After their steamy routine to the music of Moulin Rouge, the Internet erupted with speculation about their relationship off the ice, and were crushed to find out it is purely platonic…Or so they say. But let’s be real, they’re definitely in love.

Romantically linked or not, we are obsessed with them and everything they do and if you’re like us, you probably want to know everything there is to know about these Canadian cuties.

Here are 5 things you probably didn’t know about everyone’s favorite golden couple:

5. They’ve been skating together for over 20 years

The bond that these two skaters have is clear as soon as they step out onto the ice, but that kind of chemistry doesn’t happen overnight. In fact, their strong connection is actually 20 years in the making. The pair met when they were kids and first skated together in 1997, after being paired up by Scott’s aunt, and the rest is history!

4. They used to date!

That’s right, Tessa and Scott were once an item…but don’t get too excited, they were 7 and 9 at the time. The pair’s former coach Paul MacIntosh recently revealed that they briefly “dated” when they were kids, but that they were too shy to speak or even look at each other. If their steamy routines are any indication, they’ve definitely gotten over their awkwardness and here’s hoping they can rekindle that flame and just get married already!

3. They have an interesting training style

In order to craft their gold medal-winning routines, Tessa and Scott apparently use a more dance-like approach, even enlisting the help of famed ballroom dance champion and choreographer Jean-Marc Généreux. That dance training obviously paid off, as they can tear it up on the dance floor just as flawlessly as on the rink.

2. Scott hates mascots

We’ll let him explain:

1. They wrote a book and had a reality show

Want to know more about your new favourite Olympic cuties? Well you’re in luck, they co-wrote a book in 2011 documenting their journey as skating partners. They also filmed a reality show for Canada’s W Network back in 2014, which followed the Olympians in the lead-up to the Sochi Olympics. That outta help feed your obsession…at least for a day or two!
