How’s That For Culinary Delight?
With the second half of its third season due for release early this year, we figured it was about time we reflected on one of the Food Wars anime’s biggest strengths. No, we aren’t talking about its stunning visuals, character progression or how it’s used cooking to reinvent the shonen genre…we’re talking about foodgasms!
Often depicted as sensual, this ongoing gag is the pitch-perfect metaphor for the joy one might feel when trying a beautiful piece of food. These segments are as creative as they are hilarious, but which ones managed to make us choke on our own meals the most?

#3: Alice’s Foodgasm FlashbacksÂ
With her high intellect and advanced resources, Alice Nakiri was sure she could never lose a Shokugeki to the likes of Soma. However, not only does he manage to outclass her by adding a dash of fun to his dish, but the sheer power of its flavor manages to personally overwhelm her. We still get the typical scene of her suffering a monstrous foodgasm, but there’s also a sweetness to this scene as his food allows her to find solace in herself despite living under the shadow of her cousin all of her life. Yep, his dish is that good.
#2: Cross Impact
Mimisaka may have been something of a scumbag during his debut, what with meticulously copying his opponents in order to shatter their confidence, but it can’t be said he didn’t know his stuff! While facing off against Soma in a revenge match following Takumi’s defeat, he busts out a meat dish so delicious and profound that the judges feel like they are being battered by both beef and pork. The visual reference of a wrestling match is too hilarious for words.
#1: Magical Cabbage
Despite this particular Shokugeki being packed with tension, the anime still found a way to add one last hilarious twist. While Megumi cooks like her life depended on it, she must contend with Totsuki Academy alumni Kojiro Shinomoya. Despite being one of the most arrogant cooks around, his skills can’t be faulted, especially since his dish is so good that it manages to turn all of the judges into cabbage versions of the Sailor Senshi. Extra points for turning the muscular Gin Dojima into Cabbage Pink!
