Â
One thing we all missed was a shot of Venom⦠but as long as itâs better than this, weâll be fine. Let’s break down the 3 most important things you may have missed from the Venom teaser trailer, shall we?
Be sure to take a crack at your own frame-by-frame dissection of the trailer, and let us know what we missed, but these are the moments that stood out to us the most.
#3: Symbiote Origins
Ok, no one expected weâd see the symbiote come from âSecret Warsââ Battleworld like it did in the comics, but nevertheless, the clever combination of origins that the trailer is hinting at is a bit of a surprise. Much like âSpider-Man 3,â âVenomâ seems to be borrowing heavily from âSpider-Man: The Animated Series.â However, the M.R.I. scenes may be borrowing from the re-imagined symbiote origins from the âUltimate Spider-Manâ comics, in which the suit was created by Eddie Brockâs and Peter Parkerâs fathers as a cure for cancer until Trask Industries took the project away from them. It will be interesting to see how the movie weaves together its own unique take while paying homage to the characterâs past.
#2: She-Venom
While we didnât get to see The Lethal Protector in all his destructive glory⦠we did get our first glimpse of Michelle Williams as Eddie Brockâs ex-wife, Anne Weying. In the comics, the Venom symbiote bonded with Anne to save her life, turning her into She-Venom. With her new-found powers, Anne tore through a couple of common crooks and was shocked to discover the aftermath of her violent outburst once the symbiote returned to Eddie, leaving her completely traumatized. Months later, seeing Eddie again and witnessing Spider-Man in his black suit triggered Anneâs post-traumatic stress, and as a result, she took her own life. We likely wonât see this storyline play out, but expect a few Easter Eggs and subtle nods to Anneâs comic book past once âVenomâ hits theaters.
#1: Life Foundation
There we a few references to the classic âVenom: Lethal Protectorâ miniseries, including the fact that, much like the comic book story arc, the movie will be taking place in San Francisco. But thereâs another shot that may also be a nod to the villains of that storyline: the 5 symbiotes created by the Life Foundation. When we first get a glimpse of the symbiote as Riz Ahmedâs character looms menacingly over it, we can also see another jar that appears to have another symbiote inside it, as well as a team of scientists in the background. Could this mean that Ahmed is playing the leader of the Life Foundation and the man responsible for creating the other symbiotes, Carlton Drake? Weâll have to wait and see.
