Top 10 Games That Make You Feel Bad For Being Evil

While letting loose our inner dark side has often led to some awesome gaming experiences, there are times when playing the role of a villain has proven to be almost too much. Instead of feeling like a badass, we feel like monsters, forced to walk down a path of darkness that just keeps getting more harrowing with every evil choice we make. While these ten games never try to hinder your decisions, they do an excellent job at making you feel like your soul is slowly dying.

Fair warning, there are MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD!

#10: “Mass Effect” series (2007-16)

There is a thin line between being a rebel and a heartless fiend, and with enough Renegade prompts Shepard certainly manages to cross it. You can even end up killing Wrex and Mordin!

#9: “Crusader Kings II” (2012)

Want to be the evillest king in history? Well, you can start by butchering your family and make everyone else’s lives a living hell.

#8: “Black & White 2” (2005)

You would have thought playing as God would be all kinds of awesome, at least until you discover that your choices can lead humanity down a path of depravity and destruction.

#7: “Infamous Second Son” (2014)

Delsin Rowe may be the slickest of all Conduits, but watching him murder, maul and turn his back on everything he loved for the sake of power is just hard to watch.

#6: “Command & Conquer: Red Alert” (1996)

Fancy helping the Soviets wipe out an innocent village? Want to leave a bloody imprint all over human history? You only have to point and click.

#5: “Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic” (2003)

You don’t know the true power of the Dark Side of the Force until you mentally push a Wookie into killing his longtime friend.

#4: “Fallout 3” (2008)

Share President Eden’s views? Then you can try and purge the Capital Wasteland. Are you all about the money? Then you can nuke a settlement. War never changes, but it certainly brings out the devil in men.

#3: “Spec Ops: The Line” (2012)

You may have little control over the choices in this game, but you do get to bare witness as one soldier’s actions send him directly into the heart of darkness. You won’t forget the sight of watching dozens of hostages die from exposure to white phosphorous anytime soon.

#2: “Undertale” (2015)

Committing to the genocide path in this game will bankrupt your soul. Not only do you have to kill the friends you had gained in previous playthroughs, but you have to actively hunt down every last monster in the underground. As a result, Chara gives you a fitting reward.

#1: “BioShock” (2007)

You are literally killing young girls and using their remains to augment yourself with destructive abilities…
