As if all the positive reviews for Black Panther weren’t enough to get us excited this week, the trailer for Season 2 of Marvel’s Jessica Jones has also landed. Picking up sometime after The Defenders, the trailer finds our heroine pursuing another killer on the loose, while also dealing with personal turmoil, as she tries to unravel the mysteries that plague her past.
While the trailer does its best to avoid any major spoilers, there are several things we can expect to see throughout Season 2 based on the footage revealed.
3. Larger MCU Tie-Ins
Although they’re technically connected to the MCU, Marvel’s Netflix shows have distinguished themselves with a much darker, adult tone. They’ve also avoided referencing blockbusters like Guardians of the Galaxy or Spider-Man: Homecoming. In the Jessica Jones trailer, however, a young boy is eager to know if Krysten Ritter’s titular character knows Captain America. Could this mean that we’ll eventually start to see Marvel’s small screen characters cross over with big screen heroes? With Thanos’ arrival on the horizon, the Avengers could definitely use a helping fist from Jessica and company.
2. Trish Stepping Up
The sisterly relationship between Jessica and Rachael Taylor’s Trish provided the first season with a much-needed heart. Their dynamic will be further explored in Season 2 and it appears Trish will also be taking her safety into her own hands. After getting into trouble on multiple occasions, the trailer depicts Trish throwing punches and upping her game as Jessica’s sidekick. Let’s hope she leaves the costumes at home, though.
1. Kilgrave’s Return
Without giving too much away, the ending of Season One didn’t leave much room for David Tennant’s Kilgrave to come back. The trailer’s final moments hint as his return, however, as someone sarcastically claps while covered in purple lighting. While there’s a good chance we’ll see Kilgrave, it’s unclear how significant his role would be this season. In any case, we’ll take as much as Mr. Tennant as we can get.
