Stand At Attention!
She’s one of modern anime’s deadliest little girls, and she certainly managed to make quite the impact with her debut series. And by impact, we mean she managed to scare the living hell out of us with her affinity for shooting soldiers out of sky with a magically powered rifle, her obvious Third Reich attire as well as a face that you will undoubtedly be seeing in your nightmares!
Focusing on the bloody exploits of the titular Tanya, the series gave us plenty of visceral action on the battlefield as well as various demonstrations of her strategic genius as she and her comrades fought for the glory of their fatherland. The fact she used to be a middle age Japanese man who was reincarnated into an alternate fantasy world is just another insane layer to add to the mix.
Now it seems Tanya’s biggest fight is already closer than anticipated, as it has been announced she’s getting her own movie!
According to an article on Anime News Network –Â
The February issue of Kadokawa‘s Newtype magazine is reporting on Wednesday that the upcoming anime film based on Carlo Zen and Shinobu Shinotsuki‘s Saga of Tanya the Evil (YÅjo Senki) novel series will be an brand-new work (as opposed to a compilation or recap film). In addition, director Yutaka Uemura told the magazine that the new film will follow from the events of the television anime. He noted that the movie will depict the change in relationship between Tanya and the top brass, as well as the development of her troops.
Uemura also noted that there were originally no plans to make a film after the series finished, but the film was green-lit thanks to the support of fans. He added that the film will allow him to focus especially on the sound work for the film to optimize it for a theatrical presentation. In addition, he mentioned that he had recently watched Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk, and that it will definitely influence the presentation of the film.
One has to feel sorry for any unlucky soldiers who gets caught in Tanya’s crosshairs, and if the filmmakers do indeed decide to go for a Dunkirk-esque style, it means that her kill-count is going to be through the roof!
