Godzilla And His Monster Planet Are Coming To Netflix!

Hail To The King Of Kaiju

One of the original cinematic monsters, Japan’s beloved giant lizard has certainly managed to recapture the public eye as of late. Over in the west, he’s set to go toe to toe with King Kong in an upcoming crossover flick, while also coming off the back of his own lukewarm solo outing. Needless to say the reception to his revival hasn’t been tremendous but certainly not awful. After all, Godzilla 2014 was a masterpiece compared to Godzilla 1998.

Back in Japan, the kaiju king has had a much better time of it, mainly due to the release of Shin Godzilla, which to some people’s minds might as well be a spiritual successor to the 1954 classic for how it managed to not only capture the titular character and his destructive capabilities, but also the underlining themes regarding nuclear war.

Now he’s back once again, this time in the form of an animated trilogy, the first of which is due to hit Netflix before the month is out. If that wasn’t enough, the screenplay was written by one of modern anime’s geniuses; Gen Urobuchi!

According to an article on Crunchyroll

Godzilla: Monster Planet (known simply as Godzilla in English), the 1st part in a trilogy of 3DCG theatrical anime films featuring an embattled group of colonists attempting to survive on a future Earth dominated by Godzilla, has a new teaser trailer and an official worldwide release date on Netflix on January 17, 2018.

Gozilla: Monster Planet is directed by Kōbun Shizuno and Hiroyuki Seshita and features animation by Polygon Pictures and Toho Animation. The 2nd film in the trilogy, Godzilla – Decisive Battle: Mobile Breeder City, hits theaters in Japan in May of 2018.
