Egyptian Or Mayan? God Of War Sequels Could Tackle Other Mythologies!

No More Room For Norse!

There’s been a huge amount of anticipation regarding Kratos’ epic return, and while details are still a little sketchy, what we have been shown has us way too excited. After all, how can you not love the idea of Papa Kratos and his beastly beard cutting down literal trolls with an enchanted axe?

Who knows how it will measure up to the Ghost of Sparta’s previous bloodthirsty escapades, but those who are hoping to see every iconic creature of Norse mythology come to life, you may want to curb your enthusiasm. According to an article on GamingBolt, this new God of War series might incorporate a different mythology into each of its sequels rather than just stick to one.

SIE Santa Monica’s God of War will be coming in early 2018 for PlayStation 4 and marks the first true sequel in the franchise since God of War 3 in 2010. It also takes Kratos to the Norse era, makes him older and features his son along for the adventure.

Interestingly enough, even without the explanation as to how Kratos wound up in this era, it wouldn’t be odd to see him in Egypt or the Mayan era. Director Cory Balrog spoke to Game Informer for the publication’s February cover story and shared his thoughts on this.

“The Greek games were the Greek era of God of War. Moving on, the next mythological belief system he interacts with became the Norse era of God of War. But we may end up going on to the Egyptian era and the Mayan era and so on and so forth.”

“A lot of people throughout the organization wanted [God of War] to sleep and rest. Even the first pitches I gave, there was that, ‘You’ve really got to convince me that we should do another one.’” Balrog further noted that the franchise had to be bigger than before, likely to the level of Uncharted or Assassin’s Creed.

Seems like Kratos’ newest adventure may dictate whether or not he ends up following in the path of Assassin’s Creed Origins. Can you imagine him clashing with the likes of Osiris and Anubis? We feel pretty sorry for the latter to be honest, nothing is scarier than a crazed Spartan coming at you!
