Ah, the age-old tradition of best girl. No matter the genre, no matter the series, fans will always find a way to battle over who among the female cast stand out as their ideal woman. Either because of their endearing personality, their cuteness levels being over 9000 or because their busts manage to reach the stratosphere.
However, at the end of the days our own personal preferences mean absolutely nothing, for as we all know the true authority on the subject lies with the Japanese; those brave men and women who worked tirelessly to form the crux of so many otaku obsessions.
According to an article on Crunchyroll, a recent survey revealed the top ten female anime characters that Japanese fans regard as their wife of choice.
Last week was Wife Day in Japan, using a pun to find a good time to thank wives for all their hard work over the last year. Anime!Anime! took the occasion to ask fans which character would make their ideal 2D wife…or “waifu” if you prefer. Taking suggestions from social media, then narrowing down 25 finalists with a questionnaire, they then published the results from a pool of respondents that was 67% male and 70% in their teens and 20’s.
