In The Valley Of Gods: Firewatch’s Spiritual Successor?

From Feels In A Forest To Feels In A Desert

From it’s distinct visual style all the way to its amazing vocal performances, Firewatch enthralled gamers with a potent narrative filled with heartache, self-reflection and some seriously strong moments of tension. As you can imagine, many were left feeling conflicted in the best possible way after the bittersweet conclusion revealed itself.

While it’s hard to say if that initial feeling that Firewatch gave us will every be truly replicated, the developers look like they have another visual feast brewing for us with their next project; In The Valley Of Gods.

According to an article on Gamespot

Developers of Firewatch, Campo Santo, revealed its new game called In The Valley Of Gods with a world premier trailer at the Game Awards 2017. The new game shares a striking resemblance to Firewatch in terms of art-direction and seems to have NPC cooperative elements.

It opens with an old-time film grain filter and leads into the playable character exploring a tomb with an accompanying female partner. It appears to be a first-person adventure game that takes place in a 20th century Egypt, given the equipment the characters use. They climb through the tomb while perusing the ancient art that covers the walls, and eventually find themselves atop the tomb. They pull out a tripod, attach a camera, and take a black-and-white photo of the sunrise that perfectly aligns with a statue.

In The Valley Of Gods is set to release at an unspecified date in 2019, so we’ll have to wait a while to get our hands on Campo Santo’s latest work.

The aesthetic splendour certainly seems to be there, though we are curious to see what kind of mysteries our protagonists will actually come across. Will it draw on Firewatch’s most investing feature by giving us a duo whose relationship is more than a little complex?
