Gotta Get Back, Back To The Past
The long-awaited fifth and final season of this hit animated show did not disappoint upon release earlier this year. It was violent, beautifully animated and brought with it a beyond bittersweet conclusion that fans couldn’t help but revel in.
Who knows if we will ever see the time travelling samurai again after such a pitch perfect conclusion, but that’s not going to stop us from celebrating some of his greatest moments, and what better way to start than with Jack’s rogues gallery?
#5: The Ultra-Robots
Out of all the mechanical minions that Aku has created over the years, but far the deadliest was this set of killing machines. With their own unique weapons and an initial resilience to Jack’s sword, these walking death bots came within an inch of cutting down the samurai for good.
#4: The Shinobi
A man of few words, this robotic ninja easily blends into the darkness, and whose sword skills were at least on par with Jack. He’s also responsible for giving us what has to be one of the series’ most imaginative and stunning fight scenes. Turns out light is just as deadly as shadow.
#3: The Daughters of Aku
Now this is how you start off a finale. Trained from birth with the sole goal of killing the samurai, these hybrid female fighters nearly ended an already mentally-shaken Jack. Their resolve and unwillingness to give up the hunt even forced Jack to kill one of them, marking the first time he had taken a human life.
#2: The Guardian
He may be more of an anti-villain and only briefly appeared in one episode, but he is also the only entity that managed to accomplish the one thing no other enemy could do; he defeated Jack. Armed with a never-ending supply of weapons and possessing untold strength, this defender of the time portal is a certified badass.
#1: Aku
Was there ever any doubt? The shape-shifting master of darkness is a being of unimaginable cruelty and yet is one of the most entertaining characters in the whole series. He’s comedic, he’s heartless, he makes for one hell of a puppet-master, and serves as the driving force that compels Jack to find a way back to the past. No one does it quite like Aku.
