Grape-kun Is About To Take To The Skies!
To say that this anime about cute anthropomorphic girls has become a phenomenon would be a gross understatement. It has become THE phenomenon. A fandom explosion the likes of which the medium has never seen before. Which is a real head-scratcher since the series itself is admittedly sub-par.
But lo and behold, the influence and outreach of the Kermono Friends has landed them a crowdfunding page, all in the hopes of getting Kaban, Serval and the rest printed on the side of a plane.
According to an article on Crunchyroll –
One of the latest offshoots of the itasha (lit. “pain car”) trend is the itahikouki, or “pain plane” — actual aircraft covered front to back with anime decals. After this spring’s elaborate Eromanga Sensei-themed Piper PA-46, a new design is about to take to the skies, featuring everyone’s favorite anthropomorphic animal girls.
Hosted by blogger and former F-15J pilot FlyTanuki, the new project is aiming to cover a plane with stickers featuring the varied cast of Kemono Friends. Interested parties can opt to “adopt” a Friend, paying anywhere from 50,000-80,000 yen for the privilege. Sponsors will have their name (or nickname) featured on both the website and the plane itself. In addition, they’ll receive a one-of-a-kind sticker, keychain, and T-shirt featuring the character art. And, once the project is over, they get to keep the giant sticker, too.
And he may not be available for sponsoring, but we do spy a Grape-kun sticker alongside Hululu!
Fans who don’t have quite as much cash to throw around can also donate at the 5,000, 10,000, or 30,000 yen levels to receive stickers, keychains, and shirts.
Those who’d like a spin on the plan can also reserve a seat in the “Friends Flight Club,” with flights taking place over the course of November. Flights require two participants minimum and are priced between 20,000-47,000 yen per person.
Alternatively, there are two aerial photography seatings, where participants can fly in a Cessna C172 to gets photos of the Kemono Friends plane in action. Flights require three participants minimum and are priced at 48,000 yen per person.
Don’t be too stunned if you one day see a plane flying overhead baring the faces of several adorably bizarre animals girls!
