Sounds Like A Definite No To Us
With inspiration taken from Joseph Conrad’s Heart of Darkness and Francis Ford Coppola’s Apocalypse Now, Spec Ops: The Line delivered a gaming experience that was beyond that of most third-person shooters.
As Captain Walker’s sanity dwindled with each new horror he encountered through a war-torn Dubai, the game managed to make players question the violence, the deaths of various NPCs, as well as their very reason for playing it.
No wonder so many critics were singing its praises.
Alas, it turned out that Walker wasn’t the only one who suffered during the game’s development.
According to an article on GamingBolt –
Yager Developmentâs Spec Ops: The Line was one of the most interesting third person shooters to emerge last generation, mostly due to its story-telling that was inspired by Apocalypse Now.
Those who are still holding for a sequel might want to forget it â Yager made it clear that a sequel wonât be happening and now the gameâs writer has revealed that the developer would sooner eat broken glass before making a sequel.
Responding on Twitter, Walt Williams said the development process was âbrutal, painfulâ and that everyone involved would âeat broken glass before making another.â Of course, thereâs also the fact that the original game didnât sell all that well in the first place.
Yager is doing pretty good for itself though. Its free to play sci-fi ship battler Dreadnought is currently in open beta and has received numerous updates and new content. Even if this hasnât dulled the hope for a Spec Ops sequel, donât count on Yager being a part of it.
Guess that makes this game even more of a treasure. A experience that we’re sure will try to be emulated…but never truly be duplicated.
