Overlord Second Season Announced For 2018

All Hail Ainz Ooal Gown!

Fantasy and virtual reality anime have flooded the genre in recent years. Some fall flat, while others stand tall due to their originality, creativity, and fearlessness when it comes to turning narrative conventions on their head.

However, in our humble opinion the likes of Overlord overshadows them all. In just a single season it established itself as a beast that no only understood the fundamentals of JRPGs and gaming culture as a whole, but took every opportunity to rip it to pieces via our unlikely lead character.

It’s been a longtime coming, but it has finally been announced that a second season will be airing early next year!

According to an article on Crunchyroll

The official website for the anime adaptation project of Kugane Maruyama’s action fantasy light novel series Overlordconfirmed today on September 29 that its highly anticipated TV anime second season is set to premiere in Japan in January 2018, and posted a teaser visual featuring the face of the protagonist Ainz Ooal Gown.

It is also confirmed that the main staff members of the first season, including director Masayuki Ito,

series composition writer Yukie Sugawara, and character designer Takahiro Yoshimatsu, will return for

the new season. And of course, Madhouse works on anime production again.

The first season of the TV anime was aired for 13 episodes from July to September 2015, then its first compilation film “Fushihsa no Ou/The Undead King” was released in Japan on February 25, 2016, the second film “Shikkoku no Eiyu/The Dark Hero” followed on March 11.

You know what this means? Not only do we get more outrageous magical battles filled with everything from micro-transactions to sharknados…

…But we also get to see the return of everyone’s favorite crazy waifu Albedo! Who knows how she’ll manage to one-up her insanely cute (creepy) performance from last season, but we’re sure she will find a way.
