New Legend of the Galactic Heroes Series On The Way

Prepare To Take To The Stars Once Again

By this point in time it’s fair to say that we have an over-abundance of anime set in space. Seriously there are enough shows centred around mecha, intergalactic battles and aliens to fill up an entire library, and that’s excluding everything with the name Gundam in the title.

While some are considered epic and others absolute failures, we can’t forget to pay homage to the shows that helped pioneer the genre in the first place. And to that, we need only utter five words;  Legend of the Galactic Heroes. 

Dominating its way through the 80s and 90s, the series focused on a cosmic conflict between two sides; the Galactic Empire and the Free Planets Alliance. While that might sound like a excruciatingly familiar concept, what made the show such a gem was the way it integrated real-world history into the battles and the storylines of it’s individuals characters.

Yes, there were plenty of space battles, but unlike the stylised combat of other anime, the main focus was on strategy, the realistic consequences, and how to prevent as many casualties as possible.

Sounds epic, right? Well now it’s back!

According to an article on Crunchyroll –

Yoshiki Tanaka’s Legend of the Galactic Heroes, telling a sci-fi war based on 19th century Prussian conflicts, inspired a huge body of anime between 1988 and 2000, including 110 OVA episodes and 52 side-story OVA episodes. In February 2014, after a decade and a half, a new anime project was announced during the opening of stage productionLegend of the Galactic Heroes Chapter IV: After the Clash. Today, Tanaka and the Production I.G team (mostly from their Kuroko’s Basketball anime) took to the stage at Shinjuku Cultural Center to present plans for this new project.

The Legend of the Galactic Heroes Die Neue These anime will arrive with Dawn Chapter 12 episode TV anime in April 2018. Three theatrical screenings of four of episodic films from the Star chapter will then play in 2019.

Get ready to see the galaxy in a whole different light!
