This Wick is LIT: Keanu And His Badassery Will Return In JOHN WICK 3

WHOA.

Keanu Reeves just keeps on keepin’ on. And fans of his hit hitman role now can happily anticipate his bloody return in 2019.  And that’s no surprise. Here’s what Keanu himself said in an interview a while back with Entertainment Weekly:

“Whether or not I get the chance to do another chapter is really up to the audience. If they enjoy what we did — and hopefully they do, fingers-crossed, I really dig it — but if they do enjoy it, then I’ll have the chance to continue the story of the character and the world.”

And now, ish is gettin’ real. Here are the deets.

The Hollywood Reporter:

John Wick: Chapter Three officially has a release date. Lionsgate will release Summit’s third installment of the Keanu Reeves shooter franchise on May 17, 2019. It is the film series’ first summer release. No plot details have yet been unveiled for the upcoming threequel.

Following the eponymous Wick, the R-rated action series stars Reeves as a no-holds-barred ex-hitman who comes out of retirement to get retribution on gangsters who took away everything he loved. Chapter 2 found Wick fighting off bounty hunters seeking the large prize placed on his head.

Directed by David Leitch and Chad Stahelski, John Wick debuted in October 2014 and grossed $88 million worldwide. The sequel, helmed by Stahelski, grossed $171 million globally upon its release in February of this year. Screenwriter Derek Kolstad, who wrote the first two films, will return to pen the third installment.

Yeah, baby!

Wick Is Strong

Here’s a little extra perspective on the release:

Cinemablend:

So Lionsgate is taking a risk moving John Wick 3 out of the fall/late winter period when there are fewer blockbusters and into the summer when there’s an abundance of them. Still, considering the critical and commercial performance of the previous movies, evidently the studio has faith that John Wick 3 will still draw in sizable audiences. However, don’t think that this date shift necessarily means that John Wick 3 will be awarded a larger budget, as John Wick: Chapter 2 director Chad Stahelski told CinemaBlend earlier this year that he and Keanu Reeves don’t want to take the “bigger is better” route with the upcoming movie.

Locked and loaded!
